I may have figured it out just typing this. I have a upper and lower on order to build a service rifle and I wanted some ammo on hand to shoot it when the halves show up. Just plinking ammo for now so I bought some Winchester white box at the grocery store and noticed it had crimped in primers and a WCC 09 head stamp.
I was going to ask if .223 ammo typically has crimped in primers but while typing this I realized it is 5.56mm which likely means military spec.
Can I assume that .223 marked ammo isn't crimped for reference?
Thanks,
