.50 AE and .50 Beowulf

I hope this is not a silly question. I have a Beowulf and Desert Eagle, and I wanted to know If I can use the same projectiles for both rounds. I believe they are both .500 diameter rounds, so as long as the bullet type and weight are adequate for both weapons, their should be no issue right? I know nominal diameter and true diameter can vary.

Yes they are the same bullets-50AE/500S&W/50 Beowulf all shoot .50 cal pistol bullets.

Yes, they are the same. I don't know how much reloading experience you have, but the Beowulf is not a cartridge I would recommend for beginners. Not a lot of data out there.

A little experience. I don't play around with loads that much once I find what I like. I have done .45ACP, .44MAGs, .357MAGs, .303 British, and .475 Wildey Magnum. I don't have ALOT of experience, but I feel comfortable with this round. I have the info from AA. Besides I need to make my own if I ever want to shoot the thing!!

Ok. The trick with AA's info is finding the components. Of what they have listed, the Speer 300gr Gold Dot (also sold as a deep curl HP), the Hornady 350gr XTP and the Sierra 400gr soft points are the easiest to find. Midway gets shipment of the Rainier bullets in once in awhile. When Berry's gets back to filling orders, they make a 350gr flat point.

Hornady manuals (at least the 2 newest ones (8th & 9th?) have data for their FTX and XTP bullets but they are expensive. There is also info at beyond556.com. http://www.beyond556.com/bboard/forumdisplay.php?55-Big-Bore-Loading-Data-Only

There are other bullets and sources, personally I would try and get components where bullet specific data is available (at least starting out). Good luck, I love the Beowulf.

Wow, many thanks for your advice. I want to try to get the Rainier plated bullets, because I use those in my other loads, and I find they do not give me much copper fouling.

Hey does anyone know where I can get good load Data for the .50 AE? My book only lists a 300grain and 325grain load.
