I've been developing loads for my .308 FN SPR and found a good one using 168g VLDs with 44.0g of Varget. 5 shot groups at 100 yards look like this.

My goal is to keep 10 rounds at sub MOA at 200 and 500 yards.

200 was fairly easy.

500 is a different ball game. My son has tagged along and is really enjoying the challenge. Even more fun for him, he's out shooting me!

On 12" targets, here's his 10 shot group :)

And here's mine :(

It's been a lot of fun, especially since we're doing it together.

Great job!
Even better job getting your son out to shoot. Mine moves cross country this fall for Grad School. Didn't think he'd be coming home for deer season but he just found out he's off the whole Thanksgiving week so it'll work out ( saves me a cry on my deer stand ).
Good example how 1" at 100 might be 2" at 200, tough to get 5" at 500.
Now how do I shoot deer at 1000? Oops my bad - wrong thread

Great bonding experience, something I wish I could have shared with my dad more, now I wish for a range more than 200 yards.

Congrats on the shooting. It looks real good. I use to take my daughter shooting. I had a hard time getting time behind my own rifle. Now that they are over 25 they can buy their own if they want too but they haven't yet. Spend as much time as you can with your boy and teach him well.

Ballistics AE app is handy. Took my chrono data of 2,683 fps along with all the other particulars and it showed 43 - 1/4 MOA clicks up, or a drop of 55.75 inches at 500 yards.

After shooting some testers I dropped it down to 41 clicks and the results are as you see.
