Hey Y'all,
I've been a little concerned lately, I've heard shooting 55 grain ammo through a 1/7 twist barrel causes premature throat erosion and shortens barrel life. I guess the reason is that the barrel cant stabilize the bullet effectively? Is this true?
:banghead:
I sure hope not, cause all I've been shooting through my AR is 55 grain FMJ, and I really don't want to pay for the 69 or 75 grain stuff.

shoot straight

Sounds like utter nonsense to me. Did they explain how that was supposed to work.

1:7 twist will stabilize 55gr just fine.

Whoever told you that doesn't know what they are talking about. a 1/7 twist barrel works great for short 55 grain bullets all the way up through longer 75 and 80 grain bullets.

the 1/7 twist only has real trouble when you get into super short bullets in the < 50 grain range.

Consider this. The Military uses 1/7 twist barrels on all carbines. It also uses M193 rounds for training. M193 is a boat tailed bullet weighing in at 55 grains.
