I just picked up a used 649. I was wondering what people were using for pocket carry? I like Galco so I was thinking about their pocket holster, but wanted to get some opinions. Basically, any open top J-frame holster will work with this gun. I don't want to spend a fortune either.

Uncle Mike's "Sidekick" Size 3.
I use it with my 649 and M38 a lot.
It works better for me than the Desantis "Nemesis" or a Wild Bill's pocket holster which is too big for my pockets.
The Wild Bill's holster works OK for coat pockets, however.

Holster"s"

You'll want more than one pocket holster, in different configs, as they ride differently in different pockets.

The Uncle Mike's #3 or #4 is a no-brainer for a first pocket holster, due to the fact that it fits most anything and fits in most pockets...and the price.

Then, one of the leather holsters with a "hook" on the end might come in handy for the pocket types where Uncle Mike lets you down. This works well with some of the non-CCW-designed fanny packs, too.

I like the Kramer Pocket Holster for daily use throughout the week, and I also like the Milt Sparks pocket holsters. The Kramer is my favorite after almost eight years of near-constant use.

I picked up the Uncle Mike's #3 today at lunch. It works well. Thanks for the info. I may have to try out one of those Kramers.

I have both the Nemisis and the Uncle Mike's. I found that the UM's tended to collapse so I glued a piece of leather to the outside and now it works fine.

I used to carry a 649 but since I bought the "beast", my 340SC, I've been spoiled by the light weight. The 649 is the most accurate snub I've ever owned.

Good luck with yours.

John

Thanks for the info. I used to carry a 442, 642 and then a 637. I liked the lightweight but always felt "undergunned" with the .38's. So, I went for the .357. I wanted a .357 anyway so I thought why not kill two birds with one stone? So I got the all steel gun which would be easier to shoot heavier loads in, would last much longer (the front of the cylinder in my 637 was wearing pretty quickly, I tend to shoot a lot) and the weight addition really doesn't bother me as I pretty much wear jeans all of the time, year round. I am a big guy so it is easy to conceal (6'2", 236lbs).
