Not bad. At all.
Walnut, to my surprise. Expecting a severely beaver-chewed beech.
Has a forend splice, M39-style. With sharp fingers, but perfectly done.
Bluing on the gun is shot, reciever is in the white!
(This was meant to be a "project" gun. I have several- perfect- K31's that I've done nothing with but shoot & clean carefully. Even got the new-made perfect replacement K31 sling that a guy in Swissrifles.com makes.)
I was hoping for a worse stock that I could experiment with a paint or crinkle type finish. Instead, it will get something less tactical, more tasteful.
Grain is wierd but really not too many dings. Swiss cartouche perfect. In fact parts have a tiger-stripe grain. Odd but not ugly. Forend fit is of course perfect, in that it's a typical K31. It had a 2" red paper band around the forend. Strange.
Actually it's gonna be another good-lookin' K31. I cannot paint or cover this walnut. I may change the shade...It will get reblued, though. Mag serial matches reciever....
Thinking an S&K scout-type mount and a Bushnell Banner 1.75-4x32 scope (6" eye relief) recommended in another thread (thanks)....

This website indicates it's made in 1943. Hm, thought the early ones were walnut.
Anybody else get theirs? Thoughts?
And just think- J&G's CZ52's are on their way too.
