Guys,

I spied a DAO Smith 6946. Pretty good condtion. No box or spare mag and I think $450 is kind of high (after all I can find as-new Glock 26s for that.)

But do any of you have experience with the DAO 6946? Do they work well?

Thanks,

Deaf

D.S.

If you're looking for a S&W 6946, I've had one for about 18 years that I bought before the awb. IIRC, hasn't been fired more than 4-500 times. Has a Kramer horsehide iwb hoster and 4 mags with it.

If you're interested we ought to be able to do a ffl-ffl swap.

It has never malfunctioned. S&W's 4-digit line is known for its reliability.

Bill

Answer me in this thread if interested.

Thanks Bill.

I think this one I saw has night sights and has the serial number stamped on the slide, barrel and frame (did a eurpoean country use it?)

What I am thinking is I have the 3ed gen safety sitting in my gun box. My wife wants a safety on her gun (Being a Glock guy well you know how that goes..) And a DAO 6949, with a slide mounted safety so she can put it on safe and no way it will be cocked after the first shot (she does not practice like me!) it would be an ideal gun for her.

Not sure if I need to get a level that fits the frame where you drop the safety and it disconnects the trigger but once I see the insides of the 6946 I'll know.

You see, I can take appart 3ed gen smiths in my sleep, as well as S&W revolvers, Glocks, Colt 1911s, and Ruger DA revolvers. But I just shoot Glocks in competition and carry.

I'll think about a FFL swap (I presume you are not in Texas.)

thanks again,

Deaf

To answer your question, $450 is way to high for that gun......but only because that gun is the "hidden jewel" of the DAO semi autos.

S&W's answer to "How would you make a DAO auto?" is one of the best around.

I say "get it," but you should be able to find them for $350 or less.

Mine should have matching serial nos. also as it is all original but I can't verify that now as it is in my deposit box at the bank.

No night sights.

I am in Mississippi - the side closest to Texas!

If we need to talk again, pm me.

Bill

I worked for an agency that used them for a number of years, and I was forced to carry one. I never cared for the DAO, having had a lot of experience on DA/SA S&W's before, and just never felt the need for it. However, the guns were reliable, accurate, and durable. Just would have preferred something else for uniform duty.
