The parts kits do have the receivers cut. But when they're assembled, they're not rewelded. They're assembled onto a new receiver. The quality can be better than the originals if the assembler knows what he's doing and uses good parts.

Thanks Plink. I didn't know how that worked. So if the receiver is "cut", then doesn't something have to be reattatched somehow? That's why I thought there was a new Frankenstien type weld to reattatch what's been "cut" off. I guess I still don't get it.

So how can you tell a good one? Are there particular manufacturers that you can trust? Century Arms? Who?

Since the receiver is the "firearm"(the part that hast the serial #) as far as Federal law goes, once the parts are taken off the receiver, and the receiver cut to spec, you no longer have a firearm. You have a bunch of parts to a firearm, and a cut receiver(now a paper weight) that the parts were once able to bolt, screw, or fasten to. Once imported, the now cut receiver(paper weight) is no longer a firearm as far as the Federal law is concerned, and the left over parts, are well, parts. The "left overs" can then be attatched to a "Home grown" US made receiver, and combined with the proper number of "Compliance parts" (also of US manufacture), and the firearm is thus removed from the idea of it having been imported. It is essentially the same as making the firearm here in the US to begin with... HTH

Still 2 Many Choices!?

Am I correct that only DS Arms makes them here? Are the FAL's you see around all different. Like is Century reliable? Who else's are good if you can't get a DSA. This would be the case for the CETME's you see around also?
