That's a really good idea. I might do that. The challenge would be having enough gel though. FMJ bullets tend to penetrate very deeply and they tend to yaw and divert from their original paths.

Something you might consider trying is backing your gel blocks with densely packed polyester fill (the stuff they put in pillows and cushions) as opposed to water jugs.

Back when I dabbled in gel tests, I found that it stopped most bullets within inches of exciting the gel block. It's not free like water is, but it's fairly cheap at wal mart and is indefinitely reusable.

That's a good idea, but part of the reason that I use water is that it correlates at about 1.8:1 to gel/tissue for penetration.
