700-x

Love it.

I use it for 200 gr. SWC loads in .45 ACP. It's got two advantages:
1. Cleaner than more traditional choices, like Bullseye or Unique.
2. Fills the .45 ACP case up better than anything besides Unique. This makes it easier to spot no-charges and double-charges.

Velocities are nice and consistent, and accuracy is about all I can ask for.

i use it for 9 mm and 45 ACP reloading.
it is what i started with and what i use today. have enough on hand for a lifetime supply for the above mentioned calibers.

My main use for 700X is 12 gauge trap and skeet loads, but I have loaded a lot of .45ACP with it. It is a large flake powder and will not throw as uniform loads as small grain or Ball powders, but is close enough for most purposes. I now have the CAS setup of an acquarium air pump strapped on the powder measure to vibrate powder into the Dillon charge bar more uniformly.
In .44-40 it is less position sensitive than even Titegroup, which is advertised for that.

Like folks have said. Bulky, burns real clean, doesn't meter as well as Bullseye and other fine flake or ball powders, but good enough. I discovered it years ago shooting lead in the .44 Spl. It was the most accurate powder I tried for that purpose, by a good bit.

I have an old keg of 700x that I just uncovered in my dads shotgun reloading stuff. I remember only using it for 12ga reloads....but its nice to know I can use it for 45acp too!~ BONUS

Love it

I use if for building reduced velocity loads for my .45 acp & 44 Russian. Because of back problems, I can't take the sharp recoil of a fast powder like Bullseye Since its a slower burning powder, the felt recoil ¡s more like a gentle shove. My 185 gr NosIer HP's moving at just under 800 fps make for a nice, effective load that I can shoot more of than my wallet can afford. I hope this powder never goes away,

Thanks again Walkalong for the sample :) As I suspected my Redding model 3 with the micro pistol meter would not throw 700X well :( this is a real shame because I have weighed charges for .38spl, .44spl with very good results, I guess it maybe time for another powder throw ?

My Redding 10X throws 700X OK, but it will vary + or - .01 which is not all that good when useing charges in the 3.5 to 4.5 ish range, but it still gives good results. My old Hornady pistol measure with the brass bushings did a tiny bit better actually.

In the mid to late 60's I shot lots of 700X in 12 & 20 ga trap loads, before I swiched to other powders. Since I had over half of a 5lb can left over, I experimented in a wide variety of auto pistols, wheel guns, and single shot pistols.

It burned clean at mid to high pressures, gave good to excellent accuracy, and medium to medium high velocities. After I shot it all up, I used other powders and did not renew my 700X stock.

When I was actively shooting trap and skeet, I started using 700-X for the simple reason that my shotshell press (Ponsness-Warren 800B) came all set up for it. I took to buying it in 12 lb kegs, and decided to try it in pistol.

If there's a Bullseye load recommended, 700-X will do a credible job of duplicating it with little or no charge increase.

My "standard" .45 ACP load uses 4.8 grains of 700-X with a 225-230 grain lead round nose - MV is around 840 out of a 5" 1911, which is right where it should be.

700-X is also an excellent powder for duplicating standard loads in 9mm P with a jacketed 115 grain bullet ("+P" loads are best addressed with different powders.) and it works well in .32 ACP and for .38 Special target loads.

I aquired 12# of this stuff real cheap, so I'm glad to hear it is somewhat clean and pretty versatile. I'll likely use it mostly for some .40S&W loads.

Airborne Falcon
Since I experimented with 9 or maybe 10 different weapons, I drifted to a variety of other powders, and use different pwders with different weight bullets in the same weaapon. My tastes in powders have changed over the years and the weapons have changes as well. Sorry, no magic bullet powder here.

700-X in 40 S&W

I use 5.2 grains under a 165gr Berry's flat point bullet in my SW40VE. It's a very accurate load. Very consistent. I actually throw this charge with a Lee 0.7cc dipper.

I've used 4 grains under a 180 grain bullet with good results also.

Burns very clean. I use this in 38 Special also with 158gr LSWC bullets. I keep thinking of changing but the stuff is clean and very economical. It doesn't meter real well but for plinking loads it's adequate.

Your mileage may vary.

All the Best,
D. White

Yuck. Meters horribly in both the RCBS Uniflow and the Lee Perfect Powder Measure, so I have to hand meter with the Lee dipper into the scale. I have used it in 38 Spl, nothing to write home about, plus some sits under some cast bullets for .303, tucked away in the ammo can. Other than that, it's my backup emergency powder for when everything else is exhausted.

When the wife and I were going thru a few hundred 38sp WC loads a week I used it for those. 3.5gr pushing a 148gr WC makes for a very mild, accurate load.
