I got a chance to look through some German battle packs that a buddy of mine had today that was still full of WWII German 8mm Mauser ammo. What struck me as odd was that over half of it appeared to have copper cases rather than brass. Around 40% did have the more common to me brass case. He also had a belt of 8mm machine gun ammo that all had the copper appearing case. Any of you guys have any info as to why they used the copper instead of brass? I would have to assume myself they had more copper available during the war years than they did brass. I guess it could be also the cases only appear to be copper and could be another metal entirely. Can anyone furnish any insight on this one?
