Does anyone know of a company that makes sabots that would fit .224" diameter bullets? I know there are lots of .30 caliber sabots, but I have yet to see any that fit 8x57.
Currently I load 150 gr Hornady Interlocks with H4895. They are dead on accurate from my Yugo Mauser, and I can load hot, or down-load them to 30-30 levels. I was just wondering if there was ever a sabot commercially sold for 8mm. It would just a little variety to my 8mm.MidwayUSA has Speer Hotcor 150gr .323” on sale for $16.79/100. That will be your best bet. I recommend IMR4064.
If you want variety, try the 205 gr cast bullet that MBC sells. That added a level of fun to my Mauser that was unbelievable. 12 gr of Universal or 9 gr of Titewad was fun.Currently I load 150 gr Hornady Interlocks with H4895. I’d love to do that, but the Yugos won't feed blunt or round nose bullets. I’ve got a bunch of 170 gr Hornady round nose interlocks that I’m sitting on right now. I occasionally load a few and hand feed them, but that’s a hassle. If you want variety, try the 205 gr cast bullet that MBC sells. Thanks. I hadn't seen those, but they also have 125 gr hollow point Hornady for sale. When I looked up the load data, though, the velocity wasn't much more than 150 gr bulets: 3200 fps vs 3000 fps. I may try some just for kicks anyway.https://www.grafs.com/retail/catalog/product/productId/29110 These would be fun. They're intended for the 8x33 Kurz, you could get some wicked velocities in 8x57, or load them soft over a faster burning powder like H4895 or even Unique or Trail boss if you really wanted a powder puff. Probably similar effect to the 123 gr X39 bullets I load in my Mosins. Fast, accurate, low recoil.
