9mm 1911 Failure to extract

Already did that, and do it every 3 or 4 ranges trips.
Will clean it again for good measure.

I gave up on tweaking my SA extractor, it would not hold the tension; and put in a name brand replacement, EGW, I believe.

Note that 9mm extractor fit and adjustment are different from .45.

Changed the extractor and think I have tension about right, will see how thing go tomorrow,
Discovered that a 1911 will apparently work fine with a firing pin spring in three pieces:eek::oops:
(heck that might have had something to do with the failures to extract)
Thought I had changed that a while back but I might have messed up and put the old one back in.

Got the new extractor in, was very conservative on how much I bent it for tension the first time.
Still had a couple failures, took it out and gave it a bit more bend.
Ran some rounds, maybe a bit more bend. (going very little at a time)
Ran 500 rounds no issues after the third adjustment so I think I have it.
I would say if it behaves for another 1000 I have it taken care of.

Sure most of you would have got it right in one try.
First time I have messed with one though so happy I got it.

PS: It;s easier to put back together if I have my see up close glasses.
Left them and home and when working on it at the range the firing pin appeared to be about the same diameter as a .243 bullet. (fuzzy edges of course) Made it a bit trickier.

Another 300 rounds and it's fine no issues in the match :thumbup:other than I was shooting somewhat poorly.....sigh:thumbdown:
