Among the many 1911 projects floating through my brain I decided that I wanted to build a 9mm 1911 as a range-toy and for casual action-shooting competition. I consulted the Mistress of Finance on the (modest) budget, did some research and decided how to make the best compromises I could to stay within that and still get what I want.
I bought a TISAS Duty B 1911 .45 to base the project on. Quality gun, the features I want and economical ($439.) I blended the mainspring housing, then cut 20 LPI checkering on it and the front of the grip-frame. I also radiused the speed-bump in the grip safety to match.
I bought four Sig-Sauer 9mm 1911 magazines, an RIA Officer's Model slide and 9mm barrel, and an EGW recoil assembly which uses a flat-profile spring for use in the compact slide. I modified the ramped barrel to fit the un-ramped frame, then fitted it to the slide. Works a treat, and the Sig magazines feed straight into the chamber. I've got a 9mm ejector in transit; the modified .45 Ejector just doesn't do the job properly.
Yesterday I put 20 rounds downrange despite the dodgy ejector, and I'm pretty happy with the results. Gun's shooting a little left, but I'm replacing the sights anyway so it doesn't matter.
When the proper ejector gets here I'll install it and if test-firing goes as well as I think it will the real work can begin.
