9mms, so many to choose

Glock 17 <...> is invisible to X-rays and metal detectors.

Glocks are visible just fine on x-rays, and they will set off metal detectors as well. Over 80% of a Glock's mass is old-fashioned steel.

(Even if it was made totally out of Riboflavin, the cartridges are still ferrous, anyway.)

Boy, am I goin' to have to work on my powers of sarcastic levity.

Also, I keep seeing posts referring to "No Doubt". I wouldn't have thought this young group of Rock'n'Roll stars had any interest in firearms. And they seem to be misquoted since they couldn't love both the CZ and Hi-Power.

(Does typing "without a doubt" give stronger credence to one's views than saying your pet gun "rocks"?)

There are many great 9mm's out there like the HK P7M8, CZ 75, Glock 17 and many more to list which are excellent fire arms in their own way. For your criterium, the choice would have to be between the Browning Hi-Power and Beretta 92. I guess you'll just have to buy them all and tell us which one you think is most 1911 like?:D :D

Everyone has already hit on the correct answers

9x19 = 9mm Parabellum = 9mmLUGER!

9mm meant Luger for quite a while.

After the Luger came the HP which redefined 9mm.

Then Came CZ75 which redefined Kick As*! Sweetness.

CZ gives you everthing the HP does and more.

Yeah there are those that worship on the German HK altar but being Overbuilt and Expensive by definition aren't gonna get you any dates in my neck of the woods.

I've never seen/held a 9mm HK that I would swap my CZ for. I would take one in addition to my CZ but never instead of. For the price of an HK you can almost have any of the tricked out CZ race guns you want. And don't forget hi cap mag availabilty.

Glocks are way too expensive for what they are. At half the price yeah I'd pick one up. but not until then.

Get a CZ you'll thank me later.

What is "overbuilt"?

I hear that in reference to HKs all the time. It must not mean sturdy, since no one calls the CZ overbuilt.

And it must not mean that it has too many internal parts, because even a P7 has fewer parts than a Beretta.

So I'm stumped.

I consider the P08 to be to the 9mm what the 1911 is to the 45ACP.

I consider the Hi Power to be to the 9mm what the 1911A1 is to the 45ACP.

If I could only keep one 9mm that I have it would be my Taurus PT99AF. But I have an EAA Witness Silver Team in 40S&W and out of all my non-1911 pistols, I'd take a Silver Team in 9mm. CZ75B SA in 9mm as my second choice, standard CZ75B in 9mm as my third but would probably look to some custom trigger work. Always wanted a customized BHP but have never got around to it.

BHP - No question about it.

Fix the trigger, dump the mag safety and add Hogue grips. If you want to fine tune it - a little polishing does wonders for it

No finer 9 IMO. I recently bought an FEG BHP clone. It's very close to the BHP in all respects and much less costly.

Handy

Speaking for myself Overbuilt would mean applying engineering and design principals that are several times in excess of what is needed to perform a task so much so that it infringes upon other elements of function. I don't know what the dictionary says but that is what I meant.

And that is purely an opinion about HK's. When Overbuilt is what you need it is hard to accept anything less than HK.

I may be the only one in the world that does not like the squeeze cocker/safety of the P7. I know that is blasphemy. Growing up HK always held this sort of mythical uberweapon status in my view. Then at a NRA convention I got to handle all of the HK products I wanted and I was pretty underwhelmed with most of them. There was like only one or two models that I really liked and I found them to be wickedly overpriced.

Greeting's All,

MJRW, my choice for the 9m/m that signifies the
"Ultimate in 9m/m's" is the SIG-Sauer P228; also known by the military designation M11. Utterly reliable, extremely accurate,
and craftsmanship at its finest makes this pistol my choice!

Best Wishes,

BHP.

I didn't belive one gun could be everything that I was told it was.

Until I bought mine.

They are one fine hand gun. I had a Glock, and have shot more Berettas then I can remember. But the Hi-Power is a much nicer pistol.

Browning Hi Power. Mostly a JMB design, single action, slim, classy, points well and is accurate.

On the other hand you could always get a 1911A1 in 9MM. Springfield and STI make fine examples as do others I'm sure.

So, we have various Berettas, Glocks, HKs, SIGs, the BHP and its clones...

All are fine weapons. All have their plusses and minuses.

May I submit to you the following suggestion...

The new Beretta 92G-SD. It is a 9mm much like the 92FS, but with the Brigadier slide, and a manual safety (as opposed to a decocker; better for "true" cocked-and-locked). It uses the same magazines as the other full size 92s, and has many of the features you'd look for in a well-rounded 9mm.

I think that when I get a .40, I'm going to get the 96G-SD. But not a 9mm.

What do I have as a 9mm personally?

Glock 17.:D

A Belgian made Browning Hi Power. Can't go wrong. This is to 9mm what 1911 is to .45.

The new Beretta 92 GSD is not a C&L design. It is the standard 92 grip size, with factory checkering on the backstrap. It has a Brig slide, standard night sights and an ambi "G" DECOCK only set of slide paddles. The trigger is a DA/SA of the traditional Beretta 92 reach and the dustcover has a standard accessory rail along with a recontoured trigger guard.

I am getting a CZ 85B and Kadet kit next month, and maybe a CZ 75 P-01 the month after. IMHO, there is no 9mm series that does more for less money, and as well, than the CZ 75/85, and I have had Beretta 92s and BHP's in the past.
