Took my only Grandson out shooting the holy black today. He's shot a lot of that modern stuff, but never has shot the holy black.

We started off with the SXS Pedersoli, and believe it or not he hit just about every one of those clays thrown by my "One Step Trius". Even learned how to load the barrels. (he's 16 and is spending Christmas with us this week from California). In fact he hit the last 6 in a row.

Next we shot the .50 Hawkins Flintlock by Pedersoli. Again, he hit well with the .50 and again caught on quick how to load and shoot it. Unfortunately the frizzen spring broke and that kind of put us out of luck as far as shooting it more extensively. Any way with a heavy wind blowing he shot about 8/10 in a 6" black from 40 yards off hand.

Next we shot my salvaged Thompson Hawkins .45 percussion. He managed to shoot 3 rounds in a 3" group at the 40 yards again off hand. I do believe he is a natural. That was shooting sabot .45 rounds by Thompson.

Well Merry Christmas to ya all and to all a good night! figured I'd do a little bragging hope ya don't mind.

Well, bragging about your Grandson ain't exactly bragging, leastways not around here.

Merry Christmas loose noose.

That's good to hear!! And I don't mind one bit just keep the great stories coming.

Merry Christmas to you and yours!! :)

Has he shot much before? If not, you must be a good teacher.

I tried to get my daughter-in-law to shoot my .36 Navy revolver. She saw sparks fly out and chickened out.

:D

Very cool. I've always wanted a black powder shotgun.

Merry Christmas to you and yours!

A day spent at the range with a grandchild, using blackpowder or smokeless, is a precious day for sure. You and he are lucky to make the memory.

Cherish it.

Patocazzador, (SP) The only shooting he's done has been with me and his Dad, but very occasionally with his Dad (my son) who is all ways too busy, working construction jobs.

Further he lives in California, and they kind of frown on shooting down there, even though he lives in Apple Valley, out in the boon docks.

Incidentally I'm an NRA Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor, so I kind of pride myself in instructing him how to shoot properly.

Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas, I know I did as well as my Wife and Grandson.

I went to the range today. Shot 90 rounds of 22 with extremely mediocre results.

Went over to the 25 yard pistol range and there was a hispanic family there shooting 22 rifles. I coaxed the youngest of them (about 13 years) to come shoot my Pocket Police. I think it made a bad first impression as only 1 of 5 went off. It had been loaded for 2 years and the caps had gone bad. Put new caps on, 4 bangs.

I loaded my 3rd Model Dragoon and my 58 Remington several times for them. They were mightily impressed with the Dragoon. Each of them had their picture taken holding the Dragoon and the Remington.

4V50, I'll say he's hooked especially with the Pedersoli 12ga SXS BP shotgun, We finally ran out of clay pigeons and he had to shoot the other rifles. Had to take him back home today, but like someone else mentioned, we'll have those memories forever.

I only ever had the opportunity to shoot with my grandpa a handful of times. He shuffled off this mortal coil many years ago but those memories are some of the fondest I have and know I will carry those for the rest of my life. Little, from jobs to politics to personal issues, can infringe on those very happy memories. One of the few times in life that was simply and purely a joy.

Im too young for grandkids just yet, but I have enjoyed having my 11yo running our small trapline with me over his Christmas break. He has gotten interested checking for tracks and sign and making good sets.
I customized an ordinary 'hawk for him and gave it to him for Christmas, I have also been carrying my '58 Rem in my slimjim holster and primitive folding 'soldier's knife' while running traps.
Im trying to keep him away from the ipods, ipads, iphone bs as long as possible.

Sorry about no pics, We had a quite a bit of gear to carry out to the range, in my pick-up and never thought about the camera, also forgot the brass measure for shot and BP, so we had to improvise, but we had a ball.
