I rethought my initial enthusiasm for Cabelas sale, which was based on 1. low price 2. enthusiastic reviews on C's web side, though a couple were otherwise.
So I looked closer at two from Dixie, their Remington Army "Shooters" Revolver RH0135 $675, and Dixie Remington NM Army Rev. SS1173 $600. Both are by Pietta, which maker seems better thought of where Remingtons are concerned.
The discriptions of the two look pretty much alike to me, so I asked Dixie
"What is the difference between:
RH0135 Remington Army "Shooters" Revolver $675
&
SS1173 Dixie Remington New Model Army Revolver $600
Your website says they both won the gold at Toronto 1987 and Pforzheim in
1989 Does SS1173 also have a dovetailed front sight?"
Dixie's reply was:
"The SS1173 has a brass triggerguard and the RH0135 has a silver plated
triggerguard. The SS1173 doesn't line up as well (barrel to cylinder
chamber) as the RH0135. Sights are the same."
I suspect that I, being a rather impatient s.o.b. uninterested in basement gunsmithing, would be a lot happier spending the extra $400-something on the "Shooters" revolver. I already have two revolvers that won't (revolve), would like to have something both functional (ROA) and authentic.Must have a discussion with my checkbook.
