Fortunately for us, the disease of which you speak so eloquently is pretty much limited to the I-5 corridor up here (WA), although there are signs that it's spreading... Head east of the Cascades, and the politics have a lot more in common with Idaho, Montana, etc, than they do with the PRK. We're a shall issue state with RKBA clearly stated in the state constitution.

Still, just to be on the safe side... I'm planning on retiring to Idaho.

Charles,
Your initial post was great; I really enjoyed it.

My wife's employer (an advertising agency) is looking for a web page designer. Unfortunatly, we're in Memphis, the armpit of Tennesse.
I've considered bailing out but I also have my own business and my wife is VP at the agency. Kinda scary to leave the security and take on the unknown.

Good luck to you!

To be honest web design is a hobby for me, not a profession :) My training and experience is with mainframes and is pretty 'site specific' in that everything wwe do here is scripted and custmized. Still..... ponder...

I have been told Tenn is very nice actually... I know NOTHING of the place myself. WHat is it you do not care for? I take it Memphis is high crime or somesuch?

It is a BIG risk leaving the security of a job here as well. If I AM able to pull this off, I am going to want to make darn sure I have something pretty much set in stone jobwise before I go...

Thanks for the kind wishes!

California is burning economically.

Yes, it is the seventh largest economy in the world, but it's production rate is plummeting. Taxes and regulation are sending the smart companies out of state. Similar things are happening with the people.

Why has illegal immigration has been legalized? To keep the population from dropping. California has done what it has because it has the votes in congress. When its population dips, it loses its power.

The good news? It scares the other states silly.

Let it burn; burn to the ground. Move away. Encourage others to move away. Don't buy anything made or sold in that state.

Shun California.

It's not easy. It's not fast. It's like starting an avalanche with a little pebble. Getting it started seems impossible, but once it begins there's no stopping it.

Don't declare victory. It's just begun, and there are people who want the state to remain powerful, so just keep plugging along and buy some marshmallows... but not from California.

I was born in California, and lived there until I was 17. My family farmed on land that my great grandparents had bought after immigrating from the Azores. (El Nido, Merced County, San Joaquin Valley).

My family fled in 1993. Best thing we ever did. Sad, but for the best, because as far as I can tell it has only gotten worse.

Going back to visit makes me sad. My wife is also from California, so we have many family members there. But just visiting my home state makes me want to puke.

I do honestly believe that every intelligent, conservative, hard working person in that state should leave. Let the state collapse on its own bloated self as a sad lesson to the rest of the country.

i hear you bro...
my moms family has been here since pre 1900, and my dads family came hear in the 40's, back when CA was actually a place to go to for improved life... my bro is in his 2nd year of MBA school and has made it clear to my folks thats hes gone first chance he gets. I just got married and my wife is still on the fence regarding staying or not.. i'm in banking and shes in veterinary care, so our problems are in finding jobs that pay enuff. My parents are staying becuase their parents (my grandparents) in their late 80's are close to calling it quits. i think once they are gone and the estate are split up my parents will go wherever my bro or I end up. i'm thinking NV, AZ or TX....
but for now, tomorrow i will vote my conscience and i'll keep on working and saving all my $$ while buying guns at inflated prices. ijust turned 29 and have voted in every single election available to me since 18 when i voted for Bush 1 in '92.

I apologize to all Americans for California's leadership role in the violation of civil rights. We are now in the same position as the Southern states in the 60's, which prevented blacks from voting. The arguments for white only voting are very similar to the arguments for gun control.
1) The states have the right to make their own laws
2) Their rights are only partially removed -- They can vote/have CCW in some counties
3) Crime will go up if we give everyone the same rights.
4) We have the interest of the public at heart
5) The police won't be able to protect you if voting/CCW allowed.
6) Our interpretation of the Constitution prohibits equal rights for blacks/gun owners/women, etc.

It is also hypocritical to say that women and minorities have the right to apply for a CCW in this state. They have the right but none have been issued in most counties. When blacks had to pass a literacy test to vote they would give the test in Greek.

Our economic and political problems fade in comparison.

I have been told Tenn is very nice actually... I know NOTHING of the place myself. WHat is it you do not care for? I take it Memphis is high crime or somesuch?

Most of Tennessee is fine; Memphis is just a place to avoid.
To be tactful, I'll just say that while some people look up to George Washington as a great political role model, the people of Memphis want to be represented by Al Sharpton proteges.

I was born and raised in Fungus Corners, OR. When I got to be about twenty four, I lit out for Sunny California. I lived in both the Bay Area and SoCal for a number of years.

It was sunny and mild most of the time. I surfed and chased girls and had a grand old time. But I always wanted out for a lot of the reasons you gave. Mostly, too many people and not enough good folks.

I got out and didn't worry about the money; I just knew I couldn't stay any longer.

Best move I ever made.

To our credit, Strider Knives, Emerson Knives, and SOE Gear are all within an hour from here. There are an average of 3 competitive events that I can choose from to shoot every weekend within 40 minutes of me. ITTS, Steve Tarani and Bill Murphy's school are all within an hours drive.

These should hold me over until I cross the Colorado in my Zodiac.

PS isn't the singular of sheeple a sherson? :p

As for the quality of the people, it depends on where you look.

If you went to a Texas gun show, you would never go back.

The most amazing thing is - they have GUNS there! - LOL.

My wife is having a hard time adjusting and she misses her family, but we are dealing with it so far. First year or two are bound to be a bit bumpy. Strange living in a city of near 2 million and not knowing a soul.

VOTING WITH YOUR FEET

It appears that there is quite an upper middle class exodus from Kali, which has been going on for some 20 years now. It changes the tax base pretty much, looks like LA County may not be a viable political unit any more, there just isn't enough tax money there. The interesting thing is that now the exodus contains a large percentage of educated, good earning upper middle class minorities.

The main reason seems to be that we spent our money on social engineering instead of infrastructure. Infrastructure creates wealth, social engineering fritters it away without any benefit to the society at large or the general economy.

Buck knives just moved their plant to Post Falls, Idaho. My wife and I are moving to Cheney, Washington next summer. That's just us.

Lots of folks of many different nationalities are moving into Kali, streaming across the Mexican border by the thousands, for them its the promised land.

For the record, we've never had a gun problem here. My wife and I both have CCWs, I've carried openly most times I was out in the desert, or hunting, blah blah blah.

We just want to spend our last days among our own kind, (culturally speaking) and where everyone speaks English.

God bless and y'all be careful out there.

In '94 MCA/Universal offered me 3x my salary and a great position with the company in the home office. We had a young daughter and my wife was preg with our son. I went home that night, we discussed it and I gave them my answer the next day. You see where I still live, funny thing is, the RKBA issue never came up during our discussion. LA had enough NOT going for it to make it an easy and correct decision!

If you went to a Texas gun show, you would never go back.

I got to participate in the SOF show (helped a couple run a table) in Nevada... OOOooh Mannnnnnnn NEAT TOYS! Silencers, class threee, all kinds of things... I bet Texas compares quite favorably.

Neat!

My wife is the same way. Don't even have to bring guns up. The school situation here is abominable, and the social problems are enough that she'd happily vacate.

Still pounding my head on the desk trying to come up with a resume.... how does one distil a lifetime into two pages? Hehehe
:banghead:

California SCHOOLS?

Y'all better hush up about our schools. For three years were were runner up to Mississippi, but we finally whupped 'em good. California schools are now the lowest rated of ALL fifty states. But that's not all the good news. We also won the distinction of being the state with the highest ratio of administrators to teachers! You just can't have too many administrators, you know.

By the way, the two strongest unions here are the Teachers and the Prison Guards. Sort of a cradle to grave system, I guess.

Wow, that says volumes about the PRK. Volumes of "Wow!!! California Sucks!:neener: :D "*

It also says volumes about how controling some people want to be in the PRK.

*Sorry if I offended anyone, I meant it only in jest.:scrutiny:
