A Marlin Lever Action...SHOTGUN????

Hi Guys,
I have a new .357 Marlin lever action carbine. (18.5 inch barrel.) Having an illness in the family, I have not gotten to shoot it as much as I'd like. In fact, I'm still trying ammo to find the one my new rifle likes the best. Thus yesterday, when I was at the Louisville gunshow, I wandered over to one of the Marlin tables to talk. As I was looking the rifles over, I came to one that really LOOKED familiar, but something was "a little different". I still don't know what tipped me off, however the firearm which I was looking at was a *lever action* Marlin .410 caliber SHOTGUN. Now, I still have the single shot .410 that my father gave me when I was six years old. (47 years ago.) I haven't even considered another .410 in all this time. But, I sure am thinking about THIS little lever action beauty! Not for hunting or busting clays. ~(Maybe though. I don't even know if a .410 would do it.) But it surely is a neat shotgun. I just wanted to know if anyone else knows anything about this Marlin.
The dealer said that it was a brand new model. Is it? I've never seen one before.

During the 20s,IIRC, Marlin made some 410s on their Model 36 rifle action, a precursor tot he 336. Since the recent boom in the Winchester 94's version of same, Marlin was sure to come out with one.

I've handled a 94. Nice piece. The Marlin should be likewise. What to use them for is a bit of a mystery, but they look like a fun toy.

And with the 2 1/2", 2 pellet 00 defense loads, they'd make a good house gun for non shotgunners.
 
I would just add that with the popularity of the Winchester 9410 I am sure that Marlin wants to get in on the action. Marlin makes one heck of a lever gun so I am sure the new shotgun will be a winner.
 
I just saw a little blurb on the Marlin lever .410 in Shotgun News. I just bought a Marlin 1894 in .41 Magnum and the idea of the .410 lever made me say, "Hmmm."

I think it would make a good gun for hunting cottontail rabbits. I've also killed a few grouse with my .410 Bronco and broken quite a few hand-thrown clays with it. The Marlin .410 shoud work fine for casual clays too.
 
Does anyone here actually have a 9410? I've picked one up a number of times. I like it quite a bit and have always wanted a Winchester Model 94. However, I certainly don't need a rifle. The .410 could be fun, but for what?

I don't hunt rabbits, and my preferred poultry has a red-ringed neck and seems a little large for such a small cartridge.

I've thought about using it when shooting sporting clays with my wife, but she's getting enough better that I'd soon just embarass myself. Maybe I just need to convince a friend to buy one and let me use it from time to time.
 
If you go to a big cowboy action match you may see an Winchester 1887 (lever-action 12-gauge) or Winchester 1901 (lever-action 10-gauge :eek: )...
 
The early winchester lever shotguns can be seen in movies, a recent Tom Selleck tv movie and even a Schwartzenegger movie. Sorry, don't remember the names.
 
My brother has one of those Marlin 410 lever action shotguns. Unfortunately it either doesn't feed right or extract. :(
 
I am trying to choose between the winchester 9410 and the Marlin.

Winchester has the ranger that has a full Magizne tube that holds 9 But I like the look of the Marlin more and have other Marlin rifles.

What are your thoughts?
 
Can the marlin shoot .45 Colt? My Contender does, as long as you take the choke out of course! :D

I think my dad would like one of these alot. If it can shoot .45 Colt, even better!
 
Yes the Marlin .410 lever is in production and I have seen them. Heavier than the Win 9410.

They are good for fun (ain't that enuff?). Outta be great rat guns.
 
I have to admit I thought this to be the coolest thing I'd ever heard of when it first came out.

But I can think of no use for it that wouldn't be better served by a different gun. Fun factor would be high. Impress your friends. If I have all the other guns I want and have some spare cash.....You're dang right I'm gonna get one. But that day is a long way off.
 
I know this is a way old thread but I picked one of these up for $300.00 :p used in excellent condition at a sporting goods store while I lived in Minnesota. Its good for rabbits, other than that its just a toy. I was looking at all the used lever actions they had on the rack one day and noticed something odd about this one. When I picked it up I realized it was a shottie in .410 :what: . I thought "well aint that the coolest little thing" it just has to go home with me. Its the only gun my wife likes shooting.
 
I had the new version of the Marlin.

Marlin is no longer selling them and Winchester's 9410 is out of business also. I thought the Marlin was cool, but didn't have a lot of use for it with only the 2.5" shells. I'd have liked to keep it, but put the money into a rifle I had more use for. Besides, with a 311 in .410, I have my rabbit gun.

I ended up selling it for more than I paid, it took about 10 minutes to sell and I could have sold that gun a dozen times over. If you see one at a reasonable price, I'd pick one up.
 
My main problem with the Winchesters was the excessive price:scrutiny:

I would love to have a .410 lever action, preferably with a full length barrel (24-26 inches), capability of reliably feeding 3" shells. Rifle site would be fine. That would be one heckuva fun squirrel gun.
