I'm about to pick up a Ruger SR9. I love the ergonomics. I also got a chance to shoot one and loved it! However, I have a few questions. First, I'm wondering if I should be concerned about barrel peening. I've heard some of the SR9 barrels can exhibit this. Finally, how does the SR9 stand up to high round counts. I'm mostly a Glock guy. But, after holding and shooting the SR9, I'm seriously considering one.

Thanks,

I've been carrying an SR9c for two years with around 2500 rounds through it. It's been great. Accurate, easy to shoot, and nice Glock-style trigger and reset!

You didn't mention how you'll be using your SR9, but give some consideration to getting the compact. You give up almost nothing by going with the SR9c, but you gain one very credible carry gun. I'm about average in marksmanship but I can create pretty decent groups out to 25 yards.

It's a fantastic pistol!

3,000 rounds and counting. All malfunctions I've had so far have been from seriously underpowered handloads, or seriously blatantly limp wristing, and the gun shows no signs of slowing down

I'd recommend removing the magazine disconnect safety to make it safe to dry fire, and I personally believe that it cleans up the trigger a little bit, but that could be just me.

Its a good gun. I think you'll be pleased with it.

"Barrel peening" was a problem only with the very early production SR9 and Ruger took care of it early on.

Thanks Kayak-man. I was thinking about removing the disconnect safety. However, I will be carrying this on occasion. I'm just worried there may be ramifications, if I'm in a defensive situation. Thoughts?

I've done heavy machine repair all my life and my hands won't articulate enough, specifically my thumb, to quickly get the safe off on my sr9 easily, so I carry a double action only gun. I wish they would have put the safe further forward.

Try this and if you have no problem with getting the safe off with one hand then your set. I won't give up my sr9 for anything, I have probably 2000+ rounds through mine and not had a single issue with feeding, stovepiping or anything period. It is very accurate but mine is the full size model and is very hard to conceil.
If you get one definately get the compact, there is no difference in accuracy except a longer sighting plane on the full size.
