Had a pleasant surprise visiting Academy today on Galveston. Shot some Monarch .38spl 158 gr JHP's through my snubby last weekend and decided to pick up some more. At $ 12.99/box of 50 its about the best price I can lay my hands on and it worked well for me.

Noticed that now Academy is stocking 9mm 115 gr Monarch rounds - legit brass cased rounds - for $ 6.99 / box 50. About a buck cheaper than my usual WWB same weight plinking rounds. Picked up 3 boxes for about $ 20 bucks to run through my G19.

If its half decent (and the .38 spl Monarch was good - not dirty, accurate and reliable) I might have found a decent plinking round for likley cheaper than I can get, even in bulk, on the Internet.

We went to the gun show yesterday after the IDPA match.
My friend was on the lookout for econo-ball 9mm but found none for less than $8. So we went to Academy and he stocked up on Blazer for $6.73.

Me?
I load my own. I have the choice of top notch target ammo for about the price of the low priced spread or bulk grade of equal quality for less money.

I buy nothing but CCI Blazer at my local Academy. Best prices on ammo around - unfortunately, the stuff was just $3.86 per box of 50 2-3 years ago - prices go up...

Man you people...I've been singing the praises of this ammo for the past year. PAY ATTENTION! :neener:

Monarch shoots fine, but I found that it stunk pretty bad (indoor range, 9mm). I would prefer to pay a few cents more and use the CCI Aluminum.

The Shootist...

Just curious, what range in galveston do you go to? I love Monarch ammo for range use. All the pistol calibers and rifle (.223 & 7.62 x 39) have always been reliable, trouble-free range ammo for me.

Funny, I was just talking to the wife about this less than 15 minutes ago. It was around April 2006 that the Blazer took a dollar hike. I remember being in Birmingham and passing the Academy thinking that it would be the same price next week and I'd just stock up then.

BIG MISTAKE
