In general,
.22LR is more accurate than .22 Mag.
My 77/22 will shoot 1/2" 5 shot 50 yard groups with the right ammo (Win. Power Point).
The bedding is tricky. I found that out when I took off the stock to checker the wrist, and when I reassembled the rifle it lost its accuracy. I finally had to glass bed it (which is no big project) and it recovered nicely.
The trigger is a pain; very heavy for this type of rifle. I replaced it with a Dayton-Traister adjustable, which requires a little fitting which you can do yourself without gunsmith skills, and now it's a fine squirrel gun. Excellent value. Handsome, and it's a grown-up size rifle so it's comfortable.
Integral scope mounts are solid and reliable. Safety is excellent. Nice sling swivel attachments.
I use a 4X fixed scope. One 10 rd mag in the rifle and another in my pocket, and I never have to carry ammo. 20 shots on squirrels in an afternoon would be a truly exceptional day.
