Lets help this along some. What commercially loaded bullet is most accurate out of "YOUR" rifle? What manufacture? What gr weight? How many different makes have you tried in order to get to YOUR best accuracy?
What cal are you referring too?
The whole idea of my question was to see if there is a trend or pattern that could be distilled from the answers. I'm looking for a general appreciation.
Some of the best (read accurate) ammo I have found in a number of calibers ranging from 22-250 up through 300 Whisper are the offerings from Hornady loaded with their A-Max or V-Max bullets. These bullets are some of the finest bullets available unless you want to spend the money for custom turned bullets as far as I am concerned.
Out of my Rem 700P, Federal match 168gr does better than .5moa. You specified hunting... My Browning X-bolt micro-hunter in .308 does .5 moa with Hornady superformance 150gr SST. I just bought that ammo to try it out this past weekend and was pretty shocked with the results. I still cant believe that rifle shot like that. Amazing.
If you are willing to spend the time and money to work up loads you will most likely beat any factory ammo. Some calibers of factory ammo are loaded to stricter tolerances than others, i.e. the .222 vs the .30-30. The .222 will win every time shot from identical rifles. Some specific lots of ammo can be very accurate and then the next lot can be much worse.
What caliber are you looking for? Could you narrow this down.
Otherwise this question is too generic. Too many good options for almost anything you can think of.
