I keep chasing my tail trying to find an accurate, non custom, factory out of the box 45 ACP pistol. So far 1 Glock, 2 1911s, 2 Rugers. I'm looking for 2.5-3 inch grouping from the bench at 25 yds. I have a $600 budget and I'm a lefty.Years ago I had a Colt 1911 that did 1.5" 90% of the time, I never should have sold it! My buddies Les Baer ($1800 ) did 1" most of the time. Can't afford that.

Have you tried XDM? I don't know if it's accurate up to the specs you want, but I've had no issues with that platform.

my Colt Defender (1st gen) was advertised as 1.5" at 25 yards.
and it was no lie. A friends Kimber Ultra ll was as accurate also.

used these are ~700.

FNP45 is around 600. Had one and it was the most accurate handgun I've owned. It has ambi controls, like other newer polymer frame handguns which is nice because I'm a lefty too.

Are you sure it is not the person pulling the trigger?

At that price I'd try the FNP. A decent 1911 should do it, but not many $600 1911's will.

:) Pretty sure; I have a XD in .40 S&W shoots 2"-2.5 at 20 yds and a Ruger MKIII keeps a golf ball rolling to 35 yds. Recently had a Glock 35 shot sub 2" at 25 yds. I have 7 hand guns and none as bad as the Ruger 45s. BTW I tested the Rugers off of a rest to make sure it wasn't all me. 5 shots had 1-2 flyers opening up groups. Put approx 200 rds through the pistols with various loads, same results.

My M&P45 with a trigger job will do sub 2.5"-3" at 25 yards off sand bags using 200 gr SWC reloads. My Sig 1911 TacPac will do much better (so far, I have only shot it off hand).

At your price point, try a CZ 97B. It is even more accurate than both my FNP45 USG and my XD45 Tactical, which are both great. The CZ is almost as accurate as a high end 1911.

The SIG P220 will do what you're asking. One of the most accurate out of the box .45 acp pistols. Don't discount a good deal on a used P220. Some of the older pistols are not only good deals, but have a bit smoother action.

Kimber Custom II is very accurate for me. I have had it worked on a bit. Trigger, etc.

Sig P220 was one of the most accurate .45's, NIB I've ever shot.

for 600 bucks I would say the CZ 97 or the RIA Match if you get the CZ and find that you want even more accuracy out of it I believe CGW does accurazing on the 97.

You'll have no problem meeting your goal with the XDm, especially if you add the PRP drop in trigger kit. Mine is a tack driver. ;)

Well, I mentioned M&P45 because it has full ambi-controls for "lefty" friendly ergonomic handling - safety (if equipped), slide lock and reversible mag release. And it is within the $600 budget. Bud's has them for around $500 - http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/index.php/cPath/71/Handguns/Smith+&+Wesson/S&W+Pistols

I think you should go with the Glock 21. I have a 21 SF (Which is ambidextrous) and it will shoot under 3" at 25yards factory. There are also a lot of nice drop in match barrels for around $150 that will bring that grouping down to under 2" at 25yards.

EAA witness...

Heres mine after my 1st outing offhand, slow fire.has an ambi safety too..bought it for under $450.00 you can see how good she shoots with factory ball ammo..:D I'd bet the house I could fashion out one hole in the target using it off a bench hold..

Hey Nick, where is Fremont County? I'm looking at a job in CO right now.

I have several accurate .45s that were less than $600;

used G36 with holster and 200 rds for $500, used Caspian custom was AT $600, used GI Expert I traded a S&W 19-3 for, G21C I bought for $500. The G36 is unbelievably accurate and I'd highly recommend one. The Caspian was "blind pig finding an acorn" lucky, as it is really close in quality and consistency to my STI TargetMaster.

Now, the M&P .45 I just traded for isn't too bad either. CHeck my pic in the M&P post.

Accurate $% ACP pistols

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. There is a big gun show in Colorado Springs Sat & Sun this week. I think I'll pack up the Rugers and see if I can make a trade. The Sig 220 if I see one will probably come home with me. In my original post I mentioned 1911s and a Glock, sorry if I made it sound as though they were as unaccurate as the Rugers, that was not the case. I just wanted to be clear that the Rugers were not my first .45.

About 35 miles South west of Colorado Springs and 35 miles west of Pueblo.

I have 5 1911's Les Bar, Wilson, SA Pro,Kimber Super Match...all awesome guns. But my last, a Sig 1911, for the price is a huge bang for the buck! (pun intended) I would save a little more and get one. The trigger is great and so is the finish, front strap checkering. I got mine on sale at my LGS for just over $900.

shoot safe!
