ADCOM 5.56 ammo at AIM

AIM has this ammo on the cover of their newest flyer. M855, 1000 rds, $170. Manufactured by ADCOM.

Isn't ADCOM the same people that manufactured the excellent 7.62 NATO Aussie ammo? Think this M855 is worth the money?

No, Adcom is based in the UAE, United Arab Emirates. Seems to be good stuff though. Getting overall good reviews from the AR experts on Arfcom. Supposed to chronograph exactly like LC M855 but doesn't have the green tip on the bullet. Still has the steel penetrator in it . Contrary to what people believe a Arab arms factory quality control would be, this ammo is made in a ISO 9001 factory. I got four boxes of it but haven't got around to shooting it yet. I'll still continue to keep the zombies at bay with Q3131A .

There have been lots of reports over at ar15.com of this ammo blowing out primers. I think I'll stick with Q3131.

This is the first I have heard of Adcom blowing primers.
I have, however heard of olympic blowing primers.
Out of my Saiga I have had no problems with either.

I have also read in several locations regarding this ammo blowing primers. As I understood it, that's generally a bad sign for ammo. Considering I can get Federal American Eagle for under $4 a box at Natchez, or Georgia Arms at $160 / 1000, personally I won't risk it.

I saw some of that ammo at the gun show in Pasadena today. I had never heard of it and it was rather expensive. I wasn't buying .223 anyway.

Compareing AE .223 to M855Nato or M193 5.56 Nato is like apples and oranges. .223 is basically useless except for plinking. 5.56 Nato is great SHTF ammo and you'd want the m193 or M855 depending on what you need it for. Thank you'll need to penetrate armored targets, then get the M855, and the Adcom is the best price and about all the 855 that is available besides the Federal PD crap. AE .223 into a threat at 100 yards will result in a .22 hole in the target, M193 or Q3131 into the threat at 100 yards will really F*** up whatever you are shooting.

I just ordered a bunch of Lake City M855 packed in individual 20 round boxes from ammoman and it is not supposed to have XM or PD designations.

It is not any of the rejected training ammo.

I bought 6k of the M855 and 10k of the 9mm Adcom. Primers are sealed. Stuff runs just fine. Velocities are typical for mil-spec M855 and 124 gr 9mm NATO ball. No complaints.

Federal (who owns American Eagle) has gel shots of their various .223 and 5.56 ammo through different barriers as part of the FBI tests. If those pictures are correct, their AE223 line behaves very much like M193 except for having a slightly lower muzzle velocity.

Also, M193 will outperform M855 on penetration of steel plate under 200m due to the initial higher velocity. It is only at extended ranges where M855 penetrates better. However, neither one is great at penetrating barriers. Federal's 55gr TrophyBonded Bearclaw hunting bullet is the champ for barrier penetration in .223.

Kokapelli, well I'll admit when I'm wrong. Yep I'd say ammoman has the genuine, no reject, deal going on, price is a little high. I don't think you can beat Aim's deal on the Adcom ammo though. Same ammo, you just don't have to pay for all the extra litigation insurance, union labor, health insurance, etc like you do with the American companies. Bart, your right .223 will fragment, but since its vastly lower velocities than 5.56nato ammo it won't reliably fragment for very long after it leaves the barrel. At the ammooracle tests show their is virtually no fragmentation below 2700fps I believe. The great thing about the AR platform is the ability to shoot M855 that will penetrate steel helmets at upwards of 1000yards(I may be a little off on this figure, please correct if so) or you can load light ballistic tips that work great for home defense and will penetrate less than handgun rounds and most shotgun loads. Can't beat it!

The M855 will penetrate the old steel pot helmet at 600yds.

Also, keep in mind that both M855 and M193 yaw too late to fragment around 15% of the time (and yaw very early another 15% of the time). 2700fps by itself does not guarantee fragmentation. If you are relying on fragmentation, you are probably better off with match ammo since its consistent jacket also leads to consistent behavior in gel.

Yup. This is why I ordered a bunch of Hornady 75gr A-Max bullets to play around with to find a good defense load for my 16" 1 in 7 twist Colt.
