Advice on selling a revolver

I'm still pretty new at buying and selling guns, so i'm asking for some advice.

I want to sell my revolver. (S&W Model 48, .22WMR, 6", in case you're curious.) I've looked in commercial books at the value for this model and it varies with its condition ($250-$400).

Now, i think it's in excellent condition, but what do i know? I certainly don't want to charge a premium price and have a buyer feel cheated.

How does one grade or get a firearm graded for quality? Should i get an appraisal? What do you do?

Shotgun news has a description of how the guns inside should be graded.

IIRC the NRA has a description on it's website also. (Been awhile since I was there though)

You can go to the handgun forum here and find a sticky at the top of the forum on how to check your revolver for end shake, and lockup, etc.

Assuming the gun is mechanicaly good with a clean bore & chambers the rest of the grading is related to the amount of surface finish wear present.
That grading guidline can be found on the NRA web site and others as mentioned.

Not to worry at all, if a prospective buyer thinks you want too much, he or she will make a counter offer on price. Knowlegeable people will simply not pay too much for any used firearm.

Ultimately, the price is governed on what you are offered by an interested
person. It normally is good not to delay a sale while waiting on someone else to make a buy decision on your gun.

Just mention "send me PM of best offer" or something to that effect.

I usually quote a low price so as to get offers, but some people will lowball that to ridiculous prices hehe.

I wouldn't go by the value guides. With some Smiths and Colts, they aren't realistic. Way too low. Go out to some of the auctions sites such as Gunbroker and see what your gun is selling for.
