Has gun and ammo availability become threatened again?
Have prices spiked? What can we expect?

I have not hardly been or here or had time to shoot.

It seems so strange to me, that the people who want to take our guns away say they are going to take them away, then ammo and guns sales multiply. Which Infact increases the flow of guns.

I understand that sales have been very strong at gun stores. No crystal ball here although I would suspect if Hillary appears likely to win next year that you will see increased buying of both firearms and ammunition.

And if you have hardly had time to shoot, spikes and availability really don't matter a whole lot, do they? I have a sizable cache of 22LR ammo.... I don't pay much attention to the local one-box limit IF they have any at all to begin with.

They do matter as I will return to the range after the first of the year. It seems like handloading supplies are hit the hardest, and take the longest to recover.

Doesn't really seem to have caused a banic just yet. I think the shrieking broken record that is the gun control crowd is largely falling on deaf ears these days. Couple that with more positive general perception of 2A than we've seen in a long time, and the fact that they couldn't even get it done with the capital Sandy Hook gave them when they still controlled the Senate, I just don't think people are too concerned about a "lesser" incident when R's control both houses of congress.

And I don't mean to sound callous about the tragedies, but speaking frankly, this Administration and the rest of the gun grabbers view those situations as basically currency to buy their agenda, so when speaking of that group, that context is important to understand.

I predict it will be very telling if there are no sustained shortages or price-hikes in the face of open calls for confiscation on the front page of the NY Times. I think we'll see things tight from now through New Year's and then a bit after tax-refund season, and then price hikes but no shortages prior to the election (and massive price falls afterwards). Apart from direct proximity to profit-seeking during the election fuss, I think the holidays and hunting seasons will be far bigger drivers of the market. I think their bluff will be seen for what it is in the span of a few weeks.

If you are looking for ammunition and reloading components, I'd suggest you start looking now and buy as you can with available funds. I have trouble finding bullets for some of my stuff. I am not a big reloader. I shoot more factory ammo than anything else.

Not yet, but NICS checks were measured in hours (as in three-plus) at times over the weekend when I bought my Mosin. I picked out my rifle two hours prior to closing and had to wait until the next day for it to clear..

I don't think any spikes in sales will be long lived except for the possibility of AR 15s and other semi-automatic rifles if Hillery gets into office. The liberals have made up their collective minds that so-called black guns have to go so, I can see a dramatic spike in their sales.

Over the past three years, since Sandy Hook, anyone and everyone has been stocking up on supplies so I don't think we'll see any long term shortage; when you've got over 20 pounds of powder and several thousand rounds of ammo for each the firearms you own, it's difficult to justify additional rainy day purchases. I personally now have enough 22lr to keep myself and my grandchildren busy for several years.

It appears to be heating up in California. The prospect of further infringement by the Legislature (or even by initiative) looms large in the marketplace, resulting in shortages of entry-level modern sporting rifles. Even Bud's is out of stock on many sub-$1000 models.

I'll bet. While any legislation nationally is highly unlikely, it's almost a foregone conclusion in the eureka state. Just the opportunity they've been waiting for to go for EBR eradication.

Shops around here were pretty busy. No shortages or anything but they did have a brisk pace (they said one day had over 135 guns sold). Interestingly enough it seemed that pistols were being bought more so than rifles. The store is usually well stocked, but they were completely out of M&P compacts, and getting close on Shields. If I had to guess, people were more interested in carry guns than in EBRs.

The ammo selection looked ok, about the only odd thing I noticed there was a sale on Weatherby ammo.

Going forward I'd expect some more activity when we get close to elections. I may be pessimistic, but I'm going to try to finish an AR (that has been on hold) before any of that has much of a chance to get going. I built an AR during the last big panic and that experience is not something I wish to repeat.

One of our area gun shows has a regular little gaggle of anti-gun protesters with signs like "Felons sold guns here". a couple of shows ago, I stood next to them with my own sign

<--- I'm with Stupid"

which of course was ignored by the local media, but not by the local police who threatened to arrest me if I didn't leave.

Interestingly enough, while the total turnout for the show this past weekend seemed up, the turnout for the protesters was way down. It must really depress them to see soooo many people going into the show and ignoring them.

I enjoyed that. What was the charge when they threatened arrest? It was free speech.

My wife was an "Army Brat" (born in '51) at Quartermaster bases in Heidelberg, Kileen TX, DC.,, and is very tolerant of my gun bug and collecting. She is a conservative, generally speaking.

But after the CA terrorism, she turned to me days ago and said "Why does somebody need an assault rifle?". And this was based on Foxnews photos of the ARs used in the massacre, which have the scary military features. We Never watch MSNBC.

I tried to explain that only minor features made it different from any other sports utility rifle.
But when I added "Let me show you a guy's AR", she said "No, I've heard enough about guns".

Even people who are very tolerant of gun collecting etc have little patience for a clear demonstration.

the last "shortage" was caused by the POTUS buying a billions round to punish us because he did not get his worthless gun control passed:neener:

the last scare was caused by the atf trying to ban ammo

keep your eyes and ears peeled and do not panic unless the scenarios repeat

With less than three weeks before Christmas how do you judge what is being sold as gifts vs. as a direct response to the California shootings? We were at Cabelas yesterday Christmas shopping and they were out of popular centerfire handgun ammunition. However they seemed to have plenty of .223 in stock.

The only solution is to buy what we want to use or store for the next two-fours years (+), as soon as we can afford it. We never wait to receive a signal from friends or the media.

Most people on THR are probably well aware that we could always be only a few hours from a terrible event involving the very young. These always result in several politicians exploiting the situation for Their political benefit in front of TV cameras. The next market price spike could start today.

I doubt it. For better or for worse these shootings have become very common and nothing we do seems to fix it. However for better or for worse the public has also become somewhat jaded to it, we sit glued to the news feed, we tweet our thoughts and prayers (I seriously hate that cornball phrase), than ignore it in a week. If the old trend of shootings resulting in pressure for gun control than we would not be sitting here wondering if it is coming, we would be at full alert watching bills slide across the senate floor as we speak.

I saw on the news they were making a point of the criminals target shooting prior to going on their little rampage as if to say ALL target shooting and target shooters is BAD!

I'm guessing the next spate of the anti gun agenda will be to try and eliminate the national pastime of target shooting as an evil recreation only enjoyed by those bent on doing harm to others,,,

They allegedly had a permit for their little protest...and despite my sign claiming that I was "with" them, I wasn't. The cop and I both had a good laugh over it...so I didn't give him any grief for doing his job.

If there's a rush on ammo it's because folks don't want to be caught flat-footed like they were back '09 after Oblablas coronation.

At least we had plenty of .22's then.

According to Obama, getting rid of "assault weapons" is one part of a four part plan to protect us from terrorist situations on our soil.

What an embarrassing clown. I do not know what the right answer is, but gun control is the wrong answer.

I am pretty sure Obama meant that getting rid of assault weapons would protect terrorists on our soil. I mean hey, he gives them millions of dollars of military arms and equipment...can't have us mere citizens shooting back at his investment.

I didn't buy any more new guns or new ammo. I just changed my carry from Ruger LC9s to my GLock 17 with 2 full extra magazines. I'm not too worried about theives anymore. It's these terrorists we have to protect ourselves from. And they don't come alone...

No apparent Panic buying in Northern Indiana

Attended a larger gun show last weekend and was actually very surprised at how few purchases were being made. There was plenty of merchandise for sale but most attendees were just looking.
Most firearms were priced a little on the high side but there was a large assortment to choose from. Powder and reloading supplies were very reasonable but again sales were slow and the vendors probably didnt sell enough to cover their costs for the 3 day event.
Also stopped by my LGS to pick up some items i had ordered and it was about the same there, business is actually slow.
The only conclusion i can draw from what I saw is that a majority of people interested in guns, ammo and loading supplies are still very well stocked and are now just replacing what they use. New guns are still being sold but in this region, there is no panic buying and prices are staying fairly low after the hikes of two years ago
