Good GRIEF that's a lot of 7.62x54R.

I did the math, there's 997,920 rounds visible in that photo.

Just shy of 1 million.

If I find a 91/59 or a M38 locally I'll get another Mosin. I used to have a 91/30 but it was too long and no range in the entire state allows steel jacket bullets!

This caliber is not difficult to reload. I suggest Norma brass. If you use the Lee Loader (neck sizing) the brass lasts a LONG time. If you full length resize, set your full length die to MINIMALLY move the shoulder back (experiment until it just barely fits your rifle). I use 44 grains of Varget with a 150 grain Sierra .311 spire point. This is a slightly-less-than-full-power load. Then you have a round that should be acceptable at any rifle range.

Their prices are up.

Last August I was paying $62 and $69 a case for Bulgarian, and Russian, light ball, respectively.

Now it's 79.95 for Bulgarian, and Russian is sold out.

So $18 more per 440, than 6 months ago (a 30% price increase)

$80 per can plus $30 shipping. I can usually find this at gun shows for $60-80 OTD.

I doubt if it'll stay there.

Either AIM is taking advantage of high demand, *or* their suppliers / importers are taking advantage of high demand and they're just passing it on.

Either way, the writing is on the wall, 7.62x54R is starting to climb.

Even at $80 it's .18 a round, which is cheap compared to any OTHER ammo out there right now.

I'd trip over myself if I could find high quality 308 or 8mm for that price.

M38 in stock at classic arms as of several minutes ago.
Wish like hell id the funds for one as its been on my want list for a while.
My M44 is grand but I get odd results when I unscrew the bayonet.
A rifle designed with out the spear would be much loved at my house.
Alas.

Trent:

Wasn't some bulk east Euro (Russ./Serbo-./Bulg.) x54R listed for about $80-85 at some distributors about two years ago?
All three languages use the Cyrillic 'alphabet'.

Ignitionoverride;

In 2008 when I had my FFL, I could pick up a 440 round sealed tin of some -Slavia or another for $35 from the wholesale distributor, we were selling them like crazy at gunshows for $45 per tin, or $85/case (2 tins).

We moved quite a bit of it, in fact, I ran the very last of what I had saved through my PKM last year ... right before I picked up a load of 15K rounds off AIM to resupply. :)

(The "problem", if it were to be classified as such, is about 5 million US gun owners went out and bought suplus Mosin Nagants at $80 each, and everyone wanted a case of ammo for them.)

In fact, I think it's a safe wager that US citizens hold more Mosin Nagants at this point than all other countries combined. :)

Pure speculation, but seeing how many sold, it's probably not too far off the mark.

Same with the K31's. I bet the vast majority of Switzerland's old arms are now safely tucked away in American gun cabinets & safes.

I can neither confirm nor deny...oh, you were talking about all of us, not me personally. Well, never mind then. Carry on.
