Would someone enlighten me please? Are AK 47 "type" rifles completely banned in the state af Connecticut? Or are they legal with feature restrictions similar to AR 15s?

The 7.62x39mm cartridge is banned in CT. You can still get AK-style rifles in 5.56x45mm or 5.45x39mm.

Why?

The "represtatives of the people" of the State of Connecticut passed an "Assault Weapons Ban".

Lacking imagination, they copied California's ban directly, to the point of including spelling errors that result in banning guns that don't actually exist. Included in the list are "AK-47 type" firearms. For several years this was determined to be rifles marked as AK-47 but somehow the Attorney General's office decided to include any weapon that used parts that would be interchangable with parts in an AK-47, so... Suddenly a bunch of owners had to register (to be grandfathered) or give them up. The AK-74 or Saiga .308 are ok. Same design but parts don't interchange with the AK-47!

Well, at least the removable mag SKS is still ok.

The "ban" also included machine guns, after defining them as (roughly) "any firearm that can be switched between semi-auto and full-auto". So a Sten is OK (not switchable) but an Uzi or M16 isn't (unless you weld the switch).

Amazing, huh? You can't make this stuff up.

In the case of those "lawmakers," they should bring back the public ducking stool.

Details of the CT gun laws are here:

http://www.forestandfield.com/laws/file.html

No AK47, no AR15, no FN FAL... but M1A is okay, so is SKS, or AK74... completely retarded laws made by idiot liberals. :fire:

What about suppressors, Federal NFA licensed suppressor? The law mentioned class D felony for possession of silencer, "unless licensed by federal laws". Does that mean that NFA tax-paid silencer obtained in other states are legal in CT? I know it is not legal in California period.

???

And I find it hard to believe that you cannot own a AR-15 variations in CT.

I need to start a list of US states and as I read posts like this, cross off the ones that I now know I don't want to move to.

You may own an AR in ct as long as it is either a post ban type or a pre ban,but it can not have "AR-15" or "COLT SPORTER" stamped on the side. Bushmaster, stag.dpms or whatever is ok. A COLT MATCH TARGET is ok.
Our state ban does not mention magazines so we got that "right" back when the federal ban sunseted

Hmm. So I was looking at some of the RockRiverArms AR15s and was quite interested. Those would be legal?

Hahaha.... this is so retarded... i.e. it is illegal to have a "AR-15 stamp" or "colt sporter"... Sometimes you wonder why are gun laws in this country so freaking stupid...

The law also mentioned specifically "FN FAL"... what about a "C.A.I L1A1 Sporter"? There is no "FN" or "FAL" stamped anywhere on the gun... and so, it is also legal in CT then?

There is also no mentioning of "pistol grip", "bayonet lug", "flash suppressor", or "10 round maximum magazine"... Does that mean it is okay to have those features? If so, then the CT law is much looser than the CA laws. Verifications? Any lawyers here?

I looked at BATF website. Suppressor is legal for civilian ownership in CT. Suppressor is illegal in CA, KS, MA, MO, IA, and MI.

I may have to move to CT for job changes, and that is why I am very interested in the CT gun law.

And since it says "AK47 type", which means that any AK47 is out, right? No way around it, right?

Here is the actual law:

That's only CGS 53-202(a)(1). Subsections (2) through (4) add much more annoyance by way of a laundry list of evil features.

the 7.62x39 is not banned ,ak-47 types are banned but if you had one and you registered it then you get to keep it ,you cant bring a new one in or buy one in ct ,the whole "type" thing was intended to be hard to understand so they can ban everything so anything that looks like a ak including some sks can be confiscated if ther not registered all other assualt weapons are banned by name

Ar-15 types wher not banned by the word "type" so you can buy a Ar but it cant have the names listed on the ban list like you cant own a colt sporter
or ar-15

It is strange how a state that is the home of many gun manufacturers adopt such a rigid and ridiculous set of gun laws... where are all the pro-gun lobbists in that state? I need to do something about my Ak47 then... crap... since I can't bring it in to CT.

Can you direct me to a site that listed all the CT laundary list of "Evil features"? I couldn't find them.

In stupid Connecticut you can only have 2 of 5 features, which are takes removable magazines, has a pistol grip(handle protruding conspicuously from under action), bayonet lug, flash hider, and collapsible stock.

so an AR can not have a bayonet lug, flash hider(muzzle brakes are OK) or collapsible stock if it has a pistol grip and removable magazines.

rock river arms, I believe does not sell ban compliant AR stuff, but bushmaster does.

So does Stag (Made in CT). Mine's on order. Complete with "compensator". Of course no forward protruding grip extension, no threaded barrel, no bayonet lug, no grenade launcher provision. Damn, I wanted one of those. A2 stock. I opted not to get one of the fake collapsible stocks that are so popular here. Couldn't see the point.

I knew there was a reason I returned to Vermont in 1964. No offense intended to Ct. residents..........Essex

MI is legal for suppressor

MI is legal for suppressor. Just need police signature or tax id of your business.

My sympathy. If you live in VT you've got other problems. No offense intended...

7.62X 39 cartridge is not banned in ct. All ak 47's are banned, but you can own a saiga...go figure.

AR's are legal, but the can't be pre-ban configuration....AWB expired, but not here. No collapsible stocks...they make ones that are identical, but don't collapse...stupid huh?

I have a Bushmaster XM-15 postban configuration. It has a fixed "telescopic style" butt (the look), pistol grip, a compensator where a flash supressor should be, flat top with a red dot ( my additions) and I have 30 rd mags... The mags are not banned in CT. All in all, I wish I had a real stock that collapsed, and no infringement on my rights! Oh, and a full auto!

Does that mean one of these is OK? Somehow I doubt it.
