How about an M1 carbine? Light, points well, very reliable, reasonably accurate, capable of killing moderate sized game, not too expensive to outfit or shoot...would be a great survival rifle. It is pretty much the equivalent of a semi-automatic .357 carbine. Good idea, well kind of.

Stick to your ammo

I would do the 357. I did and ammo was the first reason. 357 will do and your pistol will be happy also. Keep it simple. Stock up on your 38 and 357 .im glad i did !
