American Eagle .223

Anybody have any feedback on this ammo? Looking for a reasonably priced, good quality plinking ammo. I've had accuracy issues using Remington UMC 55gr FMJ in my Saiga .223, and was wondering if the AE equivalent was any better. Thoughts?

That's really great accuracy! Do you have any experience using Remington UMC in .223? I've personally found the accuracy of that ammo to be pretty terrible, and am looking to make a switch if the AE stuff is noticeably better.

It's the only thing I've shot out of my AR (only because it's the only brass-cased ammo I can afford ) and I can say that it's reliable and pretty clean. I haven't formally tested the accuracy, but in my informal plinking I had no issues. Last box I got, a couple of the cartridges had slightly dented brass, but I don't think that's a significant problem.

Edit: I'm referring to AE ammo, not Remington.

Nope, I've not shot Rem UMC out of the 700 VSF. Nor would I. I am not a fan of Remington ammo regardless of caliber. From 22LR on up it would be my last option to buy.

I tend to agree with you. My local Dick's sells the Remington UMC .223 fairly cheap, but the accuracy is just awful for me. They also sell the AE .223 in 100 rd boxes, so I'm thinking maybe I should give that a try...

Very decent, reliable ammo. Not what you want for long range shots but great for practice.

Do you mean the black container AE, or the red container AE?

Despite some of the negative reports I've read, my personal experience with the black container AE has been good. Clean, accurate enough for range plinking, etc.

The black box. I know that my local Dick's sells it in 100rd boxes at an ok price

Try to find the black AE at Walmart for 5.97 a box of 20. Good ammo, and good price. Better price than Dicks 100 rd box for 39.99. Dicks were also selling the 20 rd box for 6.98.

Yeah I'll have to look into that. Last time I was at Walmart all I saw was some Tula, Wolf, and Winchester white box, but that was a while ago.

I like it for dickin' around. It has always ben on par with the base PMC for me. As noted above, if I'm going for real accuracy it's not my first choice but worth the price.

That AE is good in the black box.. Serial # AE223J Good stuff for the price... Hit quarters size groups 100-200 all day if shooter does thiers. This is shot out of a AR15 Bull Barrell. 24 inch Target rifle.

It shoots great out of my Savage Axis will do under half inch groups at 100 yds. Only problem is both Walmarts in town have been out of them for at least the last month.

Yeah, I believe it is b/c of the 1.5 million guns sold in December. Walmart hasn't had any the last month where I buy. Probably gonna be awhile before they restock.
