Ammo can round count

I usually only use 30 cal cans. I can pick up one with each hand and still MOVE if need be. Fifty cal cans packed full weigh too much to be usefull.

At any rate, I pack 250 30-06, 300 308, 500 223, or 500 7.62X39 in them, loose, with a desicant pack. I could pack a few more, sure. But doing it that way, I can tell at a glance how much ammo is in a stack of cans.

Ther are certain stacks that have the ammo in en-bloc clips or strippers, but that's not ammo I intend on shooting up anytime soon.

Correct. The 50 cal cans are way to heavy for most people for use other than storing it for distribution into smaller containers.

I use the thirty cal, cans for loaded ammo and the fifty for cast bullets. Talk about heavy fifty cans. I wouldnt want to guess how may 9mm and .45 bullets fit inside these. A friend used to cast bullets at $20 dollars per thousand year ago. I have plenty stored in these cans.

A LOT. IIRC 9mm was about 3500 rounds. Picking up that thing was a workout. Carrying it was overdoing it.

.30 cal cans FTW.

I recently delinked 1000 rounds of .308 and put it into three U.S. .30 caliber ammo cans as tightly as I could pack it. I ended up with 28 rounds left over. So about 324 rounds per can.

I was able to fit between 500-600 rnds of loaded 5.56 in a 30-cal, about 750rnds of 45acp, 275rnds of 30-06, not sure on 9mm and 380 but they are about 3/4s of the way full and are hard enough to lift and carry maybe someday i will count em up but not now...lol

A 50 cal can will fit 940 rounds of Wolf 7.62x39 in the 20 round boxes, or 720 rounds of Bear 7.62x39 in the 20 round boxes.

it is nice to know how many rounds of x a can will hold:cool:

i will never to put that many in:uhoh:
for faster than i can load:D
my loved ones can unload.....

Can it!!!

...what I wanna know, is how you guys get enough ammo to fill a can??? and, seriously, does it make a good difference to put it in a good can with a rubber seal??? I've fired stuff just past WWII in age in several calibers with no duds that have been in garages...attics...sock drawers...what would be the worst enemy to ammo...moisture or heat/cold???? I've given away all the cans I've come across for hand tools...maybe I need to get some more???

Ammo cans are extremely durable. I have seen the 30 caliber cans run over by a pickup and still function as it was suppose to. They are suppose to keep the ammunition from exploding if in a fire by releasing the pressure slowly, but I haven't seen or tested this. Oh and water proof to. Their tough as..........ammo cans. They are great for long term storage of anything you can fit in them.

Ammo cans are also great for storing misc. stuff around the house, or tools, or whatever you want. Theyre extremely tough, will resist fire, water, being beaten around, Id definately pick up a few.

does anyone else put their ammo in ziploc bags? I do 50 rounds to a bag with a little oxygen packet thing that I get out of shoe boxes at wal mart.

doesn't that oxygen thing in shoe boxes attract moisture ? So if you put that in side a zip lock bag wouldn't the rounds be trapped with moisture?:D

I honestly thought they did the opposite, if that is true I have a full days work removing those things from all my bags of ammo!!!

Yes, and no. Desiccant attracts moisture by pulling it from the ambient air. The packet itself will contain the moisture, keeping it away from the rounds. I keep a small pack of desiccant in each of my ammo cans or plastic bags. They are affordable to make if you buy it in relative bulk, and put a small amount in a piece of cut pantyhose, tying at both ends.

I have no idea since I shove other things in the can as well.

a 30cal ammo can holds: 1 jar of remington bore solvent, 1 hoppes jar now full of KG12, Hoppes oil (large bottle and micro-applicator bottle), Outers pistol cleaning kit (jags and swabs are in a altoids tin), three boxes of 9mm ammo, a 525 box of .22lr ammo, a flashlight for checking the bore, earplugs, side shields for my prescription safety glasses, cleaning patches, sight paints, and probably something else I forgot.

Yes, putting that in the can is like playing a game of Tetris.

I have 325 rounds of 308 on 5 round clips in a 30 cal can. 700 rounds of 30 carbine in the box will fit in a 30 cal can; I'd guess 800 rounds if packed loose. I have 450 rounds of 7.62x39 on SKS clips in a 30 cal can. 300 rounds of 7.62x39 in Brown Bear boxes fit very well into one of those skinny British Radway Green cans.

>1,200 9x19 will fit in a .30 can.

That is very unnecessary. Ammunition will store perfectly fine for a long, long time as long as it is not wet. Hot, cold, humid, dry, it will last a long time. Obviously you should try to follow the universal storage rules: Cool, dark, dry. If you keep it inside of a climate controlled structure (ie your apartment/house) where there is no water then your ammo should last longer than you
