And the same thing for me on .22 LR

It is easily available so I went out and bought a CZ Kadet and am loving it. It is a lot like my 92FS and just about as much fun to shoot.. In fact, ergonomically...it fits my hand better than the Beretta. Anyway, shooting a lot of .22 to make my supplies of centerfire last longer.

My local Walmart sporting goods clerk tells me that as soon as ammo comes in, it is sold out immediately. Luckily, I was able to buy a box of 9mm and saw new stickers on the box that said something like "if this prodict is found for sale at a location other than Walmart, call 1-800 etc etc". Makes me think that WalMart management feels that the guys who seem to be buying all the ammo are turning around and re-selling for a tidy profit. Not saying this is good or bad, just interesting.

One local gun shop buys some of their ammo at Wal Mart, I know, I stood behind one of the gun salesman at Wal Mart. He bought all they would sell to him in every caliber they had. This ammo is then marked up anywhere from 250 to 300% for resale
at their shop. As I have stated in many of my postings, I don't support the local gun shops, they are rip offs(crooks).

Local show today. Much more ammo offered and prices down somewhat.

380 ammo still rare and pricey ($65 for White Box 100) and no 30 Carbine ammo to be found anywhere.

No primers. One dealer (spelled bastard) had 4 boxes of small pistol primers priced at $45 each. Like I said, no primers.

Wal Mart here has .223, .40 S&W, and .22 LR but no bulk bricks yet. The shotgun and rifle area was full of guns which is a good sight, it has been almost empty for months now.

Local shop in Bryan, Texas is selling .380 acp for $18/box of 50. Their gun prices are always $20 over dealer wholesale, too.

I love that place, but some of their help is a bit not too friendly. Can't have everything I suppose.

Somebody on another board mentioned at his gunshop they had a pallet of 9mm FMJ in from Madrid, Spain of all places. Anybody seen this ammo? Seems like other countries are regarding our ammo shortage as "gold rush" type situation. Not that I'm complaining of course.

Shootist -

That might just be the Spanish 9x23 "Largo".

You see it here and there.

I think, though don't bet the farm on this one,

That it is surplus gummint stock.

Never bought it or shot it.

Those who know a ****load more than I do, please chime in.

I'm a manager at Wal-mart and have recently seen the ammo supply really loosen up. I started ordering around $5000-$15,000 worth of pistol ammo and actually started getting it--got ten cases of Federal 9mm today alone. Maybe you could talk to your local store and suggest this......it's a tactic that has worked well for me. Also, I've implemented a limit on pistol ammo sales. It's ridiculous for a small shop to come in and buy all my ammo just to turn around and sell it for a large profit. I prefer to sell 6-10 boxes to as many people as possible--spread the love.

Always good to have an insider here. :) Welcome to the forums!

I saw Blazer Brass @ Walmart for the first time in ~four months -- 9mm, .40, and .45! Strangely enough, no bulk .22 LR. Looks like the .22 panic is still going on. :p

Thanks

First of all, thank you for the warm welcome. I may not be the CEO but I do have insight and knowledge about what's going on that others may not. I must say that I do not officially speak for the company, but I may be able to shed a little light. There are a lot of misconceptions about what is going on..........the coding law, increased taxes, etc.. I would be happy to attempt to answer these questions to the best of my ability. THANKS

I can only hope that this is a sign of things to come. Thus far, there are no signs of it getting any better here in SoCal.

Actually found some Blazer 9mm at Academy for $10.87 for 50. At the gun show the day before, folks were running Blazer Brass for 26 bucks.

Ironic ammo story

There is no big point to this reply except to add a little levity to the situation and provide at least a smile if not a chuckle.

So, I live in Eastern Iowa there are two Wal-Marts in the small metro area of 70000 people here. I have been checking the two stores for ammo, especially for 9mm. So, the one store I have gone to about 3 times in the last 10-14 days and have seen a box or two of something in Remington UMC brand on the bottom shelf above a $10.47 price tag. However, the lip on the bottom shelf has blocked the statement on the box end of what ammo caliber it is. I always thought, "I wonder what that is." But no employee was around except once when an employee helped me with some .22 and I forgot to ask what it was. For some reason I was not tracking that it might be 9mm because I had always found WWB 9mm if there was any. Well, today I went and thought I could see by standing on tip-toes that it was 9mm Luger. An employee came at my request and it was just that...I bought the two boxes on the shelf for like $22 OTD..a hundred rounds of 9mm had sat there for nearly two weeks and bunches of people must have missed it like me. The employee confirmed that she was virtually positive it was the same two boxes sitting there all this time. Wonders never cease. That is two more trips to the range with my 92FS. (I am now limiting myself to 50 rounds per centerfire calibre for each range visit and then supplement my fun with my .22 LR shooters.);)

Remember who stuck it to you

You really can't fault a supplier for not having stock. They'd love to sell more -- that's how they stay in business.

What we CAN fault suppliers for is the gouging that's gone on. Walmart hasn't done it. Say what you will, but Bass hasn't been terrible either. At least where I live, Gander Mountain:fire: is the only store with prices that seem totally out of whack. That may be only one store (near Kenosha, WI). Still, it will take a lot to get me back to GM for anything I can't get elsewhere.

It isn't just Gander Mt.

in Wisconsin. I was in three recently in Eastern Iowa and Indiana. They are all the same. Cabelas and Bass Pro I thought were pretty reasonable.

Eastern Iowa Update on Ammo

at Wal-Mart...today I walked in a Wal-Mart in Eastern Iowa and saw no ammo I wanted in the display case. An employee was walking away to help another customer in that department and asked if I needed anything....I replied I saw nothing I needed so he asked what I wanted and I said...9mm....he said hold on a minute and when he got back told me I could have two 100 rd boxes...it was WWB for $42. including tax for 200 rds. That makes 350 rds of 9mm I have gotten at local Wal-Marts in last three days. If you don't see it you should ask and keep trying. This employee seemed to think that the big problem had been lack of primers to the ammo manufacturers and now that has loosened up. Don't know what the real truth is but that is the rumor he was believing in. Maybe the rumor is true. The point is I keep checking my area Wal-Marts and keep getting ammo at very, very reasonable prices.

I was in Wally world today checking on something for my mom and saw ammo there that I haven't seen in months. There was .45acp, .38, 9mm and Federal bulk .22lr. I bought two boxes of the .22 and left the rest because I'm a nice guy.

I walked up to the counter today at wal-mart and saw nothing I needed in the cases. They had 32 auto and .40 and 357 sig and 38 special and small boxes of .22 ammo.

The clerk asked if I needed any help. I responded with, "I don't suppose you have any 9mm hid back there do you?

She opened up a side case and handed me two boxes of 9mm. There was all kinds of stuff squirreled up in that case.

I asked what all that was, she said the other two male clerks were setting ammo aside for friends... :cuss:

In my area of Florida we don't have a shortage, we have ammo of all calibers that have outrageous prices. I was in the local bait and tackle shop yesterday when UPS arrived with a delivery. The driver unloaded 3 cases each of .380, .40, .45, .223, 9x18 and .22 cal. plus this shops shelves were already well stocked with all calibers of ammo. For the Florida guys it is Willies Bait and Tackle 200 Hwy US1 in Lake Park.

DammitBoy I am from Biloxi but live in Florida.

DammitBoy

I scored 3 boxes of 9mm Blazer Brass just that way earlier today, thanks for the tip. :D

Not to be a doubting Thomas here but last time I checked all Wally World "ordering" was centralized at Bentonville. P.S. I've seen the "bunker" where they regulate everything including temperature control at their stores. Since their distribution system is based on electronic data based on whats going off the shelves I really don't buy that Your store can "order" more than any other store.

I just hope it dosent cost the better part of $30 for a box of .40 much longer. $15 at walmart for 500 .22 is rediculous because when i was younger you could get them for under $10.

When I was younger

a bottle of Pepsi or Coke was a nickel and when it went to a dime I could not believe how high a price that was. Point is...there are many reasons but inflation does occur and supply/demand seesaws. What we paid for ammo when we were younger is probably not going to be a constant as we grow older. Just for fun I will relate that when I was a kid a box of .22 shorts would run around 49-50 cents and sometimes they would be on sale for around 5-10 cents off. Then my dad would buy a box or two..

Anyway, it is ironic that someone is indignant about $15 for 500 rounds when I find that price pretty reasonable after seeing dealers asking $25 and $30 for a brick.

i made calls yesterday to every walmart within 50 miles from me.. most stores said they had 25 and 44 mag as far as pistol ammo goes.. one walmart claimed to have 1 box of .40 wwb 100rd.. hopefully this breaks soon.. also looked on sportsmans guide for some 380 and theres a disclaimer they are backordered and the estimated shipment date is something like Oct 30...

I just hope it dosent cost the better part of $30 for a box of .40 much longer...

That's $29 for a 100 count box of .40 165gr FMJ WWB at WM around here. Blazer Brass is a tad cheaper. Sure I'd like it to be less, but is that really so awful? I'm actually glad that demand is high. It speaks volumes about our prospects for the future of liberty. Look what's going on in Iran... I'm just saying we should feel lucky we don't currently face far steeper challenges...
