And I'd thought I'd seen everything....

In the theme of using the entire animal, here are some facts about the Cheyenne and the buffalo. I did a report on them in the 5th grade and found pictures in a book of a child's sled made from buffalo ribs, and a cooking pot made from the stomach of the animal. I thought, and still think, that is quite ingenious.

Back about 1970 or so, my dad owned 1/2 interest in a big Hereford bull that he had bought from John Wayne's ranch in (iirc) New Mexico. Anyway....I remember that one day I shot him in the scrotum with my Daisey lever action BBgun.

......Sometimes child abuse is justified.
How long before your Dad's voice returned to normal?

Are they big enough to use as head gear with built in ear warmers ?

Well just trying to think of some profitable alternate uses could make a fellow seem a bit dimented. Which by the way is a quality I cherish in my friends.

I apparently came into this thread a little late but it's provided a couple of smiles.

I'm surprised you don't see mine hanging around somewhere. My ex wife got them about 30 years ago

I'm sure she's wishing she hadn't sold them 30 years ago now, inflation and all ya know...

Mountain men in the rockies used them from Buffalo. They used them for carrying rifle balls. They called them........ wait for it......

Ball bags:evil:

I remember reading about those ball bags when I was younger, my uncle Dan (passed away in 2010, fishin' with Jesus now) gave me a whole book about the mountain man for my birthday one year. It had instructions on how to make everything from powder horns to various pouches and tools. Tons of BP stuff and a section about making knives too.

I do recall one part that mentioned the scrotum of an animal could be used for carrying ammunition.

I remember a riding in a hunting buddy's pickup years back, and asking him what kind of cover was on his gearshift knob.He told me it was the sack from that deer he shot last year! I never asked him why,but that would keep my wife from borrowing my truck on garage sale weekends.

My mother is always asking to borrow my pickup truck for her garage sales, but at the same time she'll put a couple extra bucks of gas in my tank as a "thank you" for letting me borrow it. Or sometimes she'll bring me some gun/shooting related accoutrements from the garage sales.

But say I had to keep her from using my truck and those cans and junk on my floor weren't enough...

Do I want to know what would fit? Probably not.

Huh. Had a '91 whose "cockpit" (pardon the pun, considering the thread topic) looked almost identical to that; except mine had the "Chevrolet" emblem and three horizontal lines in red on the center of the steering wheel, and the radio had controls for the cassette deck under the center A/C vents.

Oh, and no column shift - I had a five-speed, not an automatic. Better for hauling horses with a six-banger.
EDIT: Think I'd have needed the "sack" off at least a yearling bull-calf to cover the knob on the end or the shifter.

PS to the EDIT: This discussion is going downhill too fast for me; I think I'll shut up now......

Yumakid, the truck is an 89' Chevy Silverado. The emblem might have been something Chevrolet added later, but on mine it's molded into the steering wheel.
The cassette player is also located right under the two vents in the center. I really don't have any cassettes, but I got this adapter that plugs into an Ipod or an MP3 player. This is really good for listening to songs about blackpowder or sixguns while driving.

I also got a hula girl on my dashboard, I named her "Annie" as in Annie Oakley! :D

Okay, they changed the horn button a little between '89 and '91. Changed the radio, too; as mine had the fast forward and reverse buttons on the "head" of the radio.

Good truck; bought it new in '91 -my ONLY "new car" ever- and kept it 15 years. Besides the usual "wear items" (belts, hoses, brakes, shocks, u-joints, two sets of injectors, 5 sets of tires, one clutch); I replaced only the water pump and A/C compressor. Not bad for all the places it took me and whatever gawd-awful load of stuff or livestock in a trailer everywhere I wanted/needed to go. I think I just 'wore it out' after 194,000 miles.

Kind of like these ornery old C/B replicas and originals. They just keep coming back; sometimes new from Dixie, Taylors or Cabelas, sometimes handed down from generation to generation of shooters. Proving that they are still relevent in a world of polymer frames and "black guns" that carry around a couple of boxes of 9mm Luger. Big noise, lotsa smoke, and a .454 roundball goes lumbering downrange to knock something to the ground. Gotta love 'em.

(Had to throw that last paragraph in there so Gary4v50 or Sam1911 don't have to jump in and call us out for being too far off-topic.) :p

You newcomers to the world of real men obviously don't know that most men in the 1800-early 1900s carried a raccoon penile bone for use as a toothpick.

Yumakid, Chevy Silverados are great trucks for sure! :) I have loaded mine up and hauled so much dirt, cement, gravel, scrap wood, and a bunch of stuff. It's just a good, solid, well made truck. Yeah the truck is getting probably 16 mpg at best, but if you put a fiberglass cover like a tawnow over the bed you can get better mileage. The heater is good, and the speakers are great! I had the transmission rebuilt, and there's a brand new V8 crate motor in it when I got it.
It actually belonged to a pilot at one point too, and pilots generally take good care of their vehicles. Because if a plane has a malfunction, you can't just pull over! Must be a mindset that most pilots have. Said pilot only used it to get from his house to the airport, so it's in pretty good shape!

Yeah, vehicles are a lot like guns. My mother's Mercedes Benz drives like a well tuned Smith and Wesson revolver, with blued steel and walnut grips... very tight and everything is smooth like glass. Fords are like the Colt cap and balls of the car world, and Chevrolets are kinda like the Remingtons! :D

And of course you've got the Toyota Prius, not sure how you could relate that to any sort of gun given it's a granola type car.
