i just refinished my 1911 grips with a dark walnut stain. i'd like to apply this stain to my 870p walnut stock and forend. i'm wondering if it will "take" without any prep or if remington seals the walnut furniture in some way. on my walnut 1911 slabs, i just applied the stain directly over the older finish, and they look great (to me anyway). these are police walnut, and have a satin finish with no checkering. any ideas??

thanks

I *think* they are sealed with a light coat of something. IMHO, you'll have to strip the stock and forearm.

May want to try a dab (Q-tip's worth) and see if it beads up.

I'm not sure about the current walnut Police guns, but the older hardwood models had military-type oil finished wood.

You'll likely have to strip the finish and test a spot to see if the chosen stain will "take".
