Student kills one adult, injures two others at Campbell County H.S.
Shooting at Campbell County High School

November 8, 2005

JACKSBORO (WATE) -- Witnesses say a male student walked into Campbell County High School this afternoon and shot two administrators and a teacher.

6 News has learned one of the three male faculty members has died.

The student walked into the school cafeteria around 2:00 p.m. hiding a hand gun under a napkin, then fired the gun at the principal, an assistant principal and a teacher.

The student was immediately tackled and taken into custody.

According to Gail Parks, the administrative assistant for the director of schools, no students have been hurt in the incident.

One man was shot in the head and another shot in the leg. It is unclear at this time if the third man was shot.

Two Lifestar helicopters transported the injured faculty members to UT Medical Center.

Immediately after the shooting, the school was put into lock down, meaning parents and others were not allowed to enter the building. At normal dismissal time the students are being escorted out to the waiting buses.

My standard thought: home school.
US schools seems to be as lousy as the Soviet ones were, just in different ways.

Oleg, I myself spent some time as a HSer. The only problems I encountered, were both liberal made.

The more severe issue, was the attempt to keep me out of college (which was overcome with time) because as a Home Schooler, they didn't like the way the records were kept. The minor annoyance, is the scorn that gets thrown at you for being some nutjob homeschooler. (Always from administration, or liberals, your average student doesn't care.) If you HS yours, prepare them, it shocked me when I finally did make it in.

If the murderous student was not taking prescription meds (Ritalin, Luvox, Prozac, whatever) I'll be surprised. More often than not, it eventually comes out that the school shooters were drugged . . . :(

It's now time for the leftist extremists to snivel and whine in favor of so-called "gun control." A kid commits a murder, so America's law-abiding firearms owners need to be punished.

Stalin would understand.

SW,

One of the great things about TN, is that screaming won't fly. We may have a Democrat controlled House, Dem Gov, and split Senate, but supporting GC is a great way to for a legislator to loose his job in TN.

I wish it was so...I am about to run a PR campaign designed to put fear of job loss into some of the state leadership. We have enough stupidities within the state law that the work isn't all done yet.

Even Fox News is dripping purple prose with their "Terror At Tenn. School" headline.

Some screwed up 15 year old walks into the school with a gun and kills the assistant principal and shoots the principal and a teacher and they shout "Terror". Bah! Conservative rags are as much butt wipe as lib.

But how could this possibly happen?????

Isn't it against the law to bring a gun to school ....

The education system is failing: he couldn't read the signs :p
My sentiments exactly. This cannot be a true story. The Democratic politicians told us that laws would prevent this sort of thing.

Oh, wait ... the assault weapons ban ended. Never mind that this wasn't an "assault weapon" ... it's all becausw the AWB didn't get renewed.

Thank goodness that baseball pitcher guy was at home in Venzuela, or we'd be looking at an assault machete ban next.

Sounds good. You may want to tell the TFA about it, we might be able to help, dunno how much. www.tennesseefirearms.com

I think they mean "terror", as in, good old fashion terror. Not terrorism "terror".

I don't see a problem with the statement.

Sadly hso, you are right. Too bad he is good enough of a politician to do just that.

Lets all hope Bredeson makes this one of his re-election planks, more GC, and a state Income tax.

You could just as easily say that it eventually comes out that the kids were diagnosed head cases that shouldnt have been placed in a system with normal kids in the first place.

Get involved

Y'know, I've read many articles and seen many news reports about incidents like this over the years and I have a question. Where are the parents? Wally & the Beaver never went on a rampage. I would have thought that, eventually, Beaver would have knuckled up Eddie. But he didn't.

IMHO, because our economy has forced most of us into both parental figures working combined with the rising single parent homes, some parents are unable to effectively raise their children depending on the educational system to raise them. Problem tho, too many kids, not enough educators. Teachers become overwhelmed, throw in a bad apple or two and, after a while, they lose sight of why they became a teacher. Now, the schools are unable to raise our kids. Now what?

Parents, take action. Get involved in your child's life. Show them the ropes of life and, if you have even the faintest inkling of an idea that your child will be exposed to firearms, educate them. Expose them in a controlled atmosphere (ie Hunter Education, Rifle Safety, Pistol Safety, etc...) and talk with them.

Get involved in your child's emotional growth and well being. Not just when your schedule suits but at all times. Stop letting TV/Radio/PlayStation watch and raise our future. Let them know you care and will be there *any* time they need you.

Don't have time? Make it. Take a weekend, be home nights, take an occasional day from work. Include them in fixing the car, painting the living room or creating something from wood, cloth or whatever. Stop depending on other people/things to raise your children and to teach them right from wrong.

PS: For those that already do, Kudos. We need more that do.

It saddens me that this has happened again. Information still seems sketchy about the whys? or details about the kid to did the shooting. Some say he was well liked and balanced and others said he was "ex-reform school" suggesting a problem child from a crime standpoint.

This part of Tennessee is rural and guns are very common. I feel sure that shooting 22's is a very common past time for kids as it was for me when I was that age. I just wonder what pushed this kid over the edge?

Where are the parents? Well, we will have to wait and see what comes out about the kid in terms of his life and upbringing and judgements will be made.

People say the 22 is too small to be effective??

The publicity that an occurrence such as this generates is senseless. The media rushes to make it a news story, and they also rush to put a collection of any and all shootings that have occurred a footnote to each story as if each and every terrible shooting are somehow inexplicably connected. By publicizing and comparing such violent events to each other, the media provides firm ground for the next shooting to take root.

By publicizing each one, the media plants the seed for some other mixed-up kid to do a similar act, and the media becomes the common thread that binds these sorts of senseless acts together. Without the media, this sort of thing probably wouldn’t happen, or if it did, it wouldn’t happen very often.

Just my two cents,

From local TV station.

"Both Principal Seale and Asst. Principal Pierce are listed in serious condition at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Both were transported by Lifestar helicopter. They are out of surgery and in ICU, though they were able to communicate with law enforcement who described them in "good spirits." Family and friends have gathered at the hospital.

According to the Associated Press, Pierce and Seale were injured while trying to subdue the juvenile suspect, identified as student Kenneth Bartley, 15."

Kid walks in and shoots Mr. Bruce and instead of running for the door or hiding up their asses these two men tackle the kid and subdue him getting shot in the process. Even after being shot the principal made his way to the PA system and instituted a lockdown. Good guys.

Agreed. But you know full well hso, we don;t allow metrosexual wimps in TN. Not even in schools.

As a couple of others have already noted, it will not get any better until parents step up and start teaching their children right from wrong and start being a part of these kid's lives. And if the parents can't do that, then they do not need to have children. Or at least wait until the career can be put on hold long enough to get a child started in the right direction.
Also I agree with the idea that the media sensationalizing these types of stories is causing other kids to commit similar crimes.:banghead:
Perhaps instead of slapping these kids on the wrist and telling them no-no, they should be tried as adults and the death penalty should be used. I'm guessing that after one or two of them were to get it, that would set a huge example for the others.:scrutiny:
I just don't get it. I'm 35, grew up with a house full of guns, had my own gun at 9-10 years old. I would have never thought of shooting someone. :what:
