We started the season off right this year with both my daughters and myself scoring on Antelope.

Both the girls made great one shot kills on big bucks the first day. I had to be the drama queen and miss my buck on day one. But killed a mature buck on the second morning.

My baby girl killed her buck later that afternoon using her custom 6.5/06 and 140 gr Accubonds at 356 yards. She made a great shot on the buck as it was facing her straight on. I am really starting to like the 6.5/06 and the way it performs on game on the field! She called the shot "where the brown and the white meet where the neck joins the chest. That is exactly where the bullet hole was. IMG_2447.JPG IMG_2452.JPG

IMG_2468.JPG IMG_2489.JPG As mentioned above I missed my first opportunity just before dark on the first day. I had a solid prone rest off the bipod at 300 yards. The shot broke clean and I flat out, missed him clean. I can't explain it. But no matter the cause, I missed.

The next morning I took a nice mature buck. Not as big as the girls buck's but a respectable mature buck.

After a short stalk I was able to put a 165 gr Nosler Accubond from my .308 in a Steyr Scout rifle clean through the middle of his heart at 198 yards.

Very nice! 3 for 3!

Out of curiosity, did you recover the bullet from daughter #2 antelope?

As a matter of fact we did. It was in the meat of the hind quarter just where the tenderloin attaches to the pelvis. I did not weigh it but it was perfectly mushroomed and I'm guessing retained about 60% of its weight as accubonds and Partitions tend to do.

Might pass that on to horsey300.

I will, was he looking for info on the accubonds or the 6.5/06 in particular?
He’s compiling some research on bullet performance with with different calibers and bullet types. He needs cartridge, bullet, velocity, and distance animal was taken.
