So, . . . . since I'm going to be keeping the Shield as my CCW pistol, . . . what options do I have for night sights? I would prefer a set with a rear sight that can double for "one handed racking" as well.

Opinions and pics appreciated. :)

Looks like Ameriglo only has one for the Shield. Only a front night sight. I prefer having rear night sights as well.

I thought I saw quite a bit more than that available but maybe I wasn't looking hard enough (make sure you look at the dedicated rear sight page too). You might want to call them and ask about sight options, what's in stock (on at least one occasion they had items I wanted in stock that were not reflected on their website), and lead times, etc. Ameriglo customer for me has been top notch.

No, they have dedicated sights for the Shield. Contra a previous poster, while the dovetail for the regular M&P sights will fit a Shield, the regular M&P sights are too wide. So you can put them in, and they'll work, but you'll have the side of the rear sights sticking out on each side of the slide.

I know for sure Ameriglo has I-Dot and I-Dot Pro sights for the Shield specifically. Mine is wearing I-Dots right now.

https://www.ameriglo.net/catalog/sights/pistol-sights/smith-wesson/night-sights/complete-sets

They are listing standard three-dot Shield night sights for $105 (Sold Out), I-Dot Pro for the Shield at $89 (Sold Out), and standard I-dot for the Shield at $85 (IN stock).

The standard I-dots are fantastic sights. I have them on a Glock 19 and an M&P Shield.

Ameriglo uses tritium vials from Trijicon, so they have the same clarity and sharp appearance. I think Meprolights are a bit brighter, but their tritium vials appears fuzzier, so it's a matter of preference.

I would be most interested in the standard three-dot Shield night sights, so I guess I'll have to wait until they are back in stock.

Thanks for the help, guys!

Updated: I went to the Ameriglo website and the standard three-dot sites are definitely what I'm interested in.

I really like the TruGlo TFO's on my Shield. Easy to pick up. There's a lip on the leading edge of the rear sight if you need to rack it against something other than your hand.

Those look nice. So far, however, I like those Ameriglo a bit better. :)

Maybe, maybe not, on my M&P 40c there is about 1/16" of naked dovetail on either side of the rear and front site (maybe a bit more on the front).

If you need much adjustment then it might hang over.

I really like the different colors of the front and rear dots, My main problem with night sites is with my presbyopia its really hard to tell the front from the rear when its dark enough to actually need them. I've painted the rear to make them "darker" but it tends to rub off on a carry pistol.

If you go to that webpage, I think the bottom one shows it from the rear view.

No, I'm about 95% sure they hang over- when the Shield first came out, Ameriglo didn't have I-Dots or I-Dot Pros for them yet. Some people on another forum had extra sets for M&Ps and had pictures posted of putting them on the Shield. They overhang a bit. Still usable, but they overhang a bit. The Shield is like .25" narrower than a regular M&P, so even if you have about 1/8" of extra space on your M&P sights, it will still hang over.

Opinion is to find a gunsmith and have that person install the sights for you, whatever you get.

I'm not one to avoid working on his own gun, but changing the sights on my Shield was a considerable hassle and not something I would want to repeat.

I went with the TruGlo TFOs, btw.

I would highly recommend calling Ameriglo. They are a small shop and I don't think the website always reflects whats available. At the very least they have usually been able to give me lead times on anything that was out of stock, but as I said, sometimes the site says they don't have it when they really do. Also they may be able to tell you if they have any new Shield sights in the works that might interest you. Just a suggestion.

I run the I-Dots on all my Glocks now and love them. A quick Google search for Ameriglo I-Dot should give you an idea of the sight picture.
