Hello out there,

have a two-pronged question for y'all. is GunpartsGuy.com a good source for parts and instructions on assembling an FN/FAL? Also, I see they come in metric and English Standard measured part sets; is there any real difference in the actual stuff or is it just in how it's measured? Also, any evaluations any of you ight have for ease of assembly using their literature would be helpful.

In general I'm also wondering if this is the best path to owning an FN/FAL without breaking the bank. If I was to look for good deals on assembled ones out there, what are the better makes? What should I expect to pay, what's a good deal? Thanks in advance!

I bought some FAL parts from GunpartsGuy on 2 or 3 occasions, and I was very pleased with the fast and correct service from that dealer (fastest shipping I ever had from across the Atlantic). He also seems well appreciated on the falfiles forum.

There are “metric FAL’s” (Belgium, Austria, Brazil, Germany, Israel, Argentina) and “inch FAL’s” (UK, Australia, Canada, India). Most parts are NOT interchangeable. I believe most FAL’s found in the US are “metric”.

This should give you an idea on disassembly:

As to what ‘make’ is the best ??? Personnally I believe there is little difference between them, but most experts rate the Austrian as best, followed by the Belgian and then the others. Keep in mind that most FAL’S found in the US had parts changed (I believe for Legal reasons / Minimum number of US-made parts ???).

The metric FALs are easier to find parts for but that is not to say that Inch pattern parts can not be found, just more difficult. As far as parts interchanging just assume that they do not. Parts for different Metric guns may not fit another Metric gun and Inch to Metric is even trickier. The only thing I know is that Metric mags will work in an Inch rifle but not the other way around due to the different locking lug on the front of the mag. I have a parts built gun on a DSA Type 1 upper. And yes most US parts guns have to have 7? US Compliant parts to be legal. I normally get my parts from DSA as they seem to make/ have the best parts out there but their CS can be spotty. There is nothing wrong with a parts build gun as long as it is not a Century, been there done that, and your builder knows what he is doing. Mine did and I can ring steel at 400yrds with my iron sights.

Edit: Those kits are way over priced. For that price you can buy an assembled DSA Stg 58.

+1 on GPG from a long time falfiler. they have been a reliable source for 10 years to the fal building community.

metric guns are 90% of what is out there. either get all of your inch parts and a good receiver from one source now, or go metric.
