Hey I'm thinking about getting a DPMS AR-15 since they seem to be about $200 or so less than Bushmaster on average. That's enough of a difference to put it within the realm of possibility for me. Of course I don't wanna waste my money if it's a POS. There's a pretty good review of one on Youtube but I was wondering if anybody has any opinions here. Much obliged. :)

Ordered mine late feb, still not here!

Probally the worst time to buy an AR is now, due to the current election, and fear of another AWB. Every company is backed up, DPMS now has an 8-12 month wait on all there rifles, but if u dont have an AR yet

NOW IS THE TIME TO PUT MONEY DOWN ON IT!

Do not listen to reviews on youtube. Like a guy sitting in his bathroom twirling around a desert eagle and holding it at different angles is helpful. Or the review on the steyr scout... seriously he said "here it is" and described what it looked like, then put in a magazine and unloaded it with the bolt :banghead:.

Ok, enough venting ;). I buy DPMS stripped lowers for my builds, or have in the past, and haven't had too many problems with them, besides having to trim down the swivel pin detent spring because they didn't drill the hole deep enough (to spec). Many tell me that the DPMS isn't as good as some other brands, but if this is a plinking rifle and possibly a critter gun, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I love my DPMS. Fit and finish is excellent. Most of the major parts are made elsewhere and shipped to gun manufacturers. The same upper or lower reciever that is on the S&W, RRA, Stag, is most likely from the same place. DPMS is the leading seller of AR-15s right now. You don't get that big selling junk. If you want bragging rights buy the Colt. If you a good quality AR at an affordable price buy the DPMS.
I have also heard outstanding reviews from users and skeptics about the High Standard ARs and the New Charles Daly models also. Both are also made in the USA. Do a search on this forum and you will find that the president of Charles Daly is a regular on here, helping out customers with questions and any other concerns they may have. I have never seen that kind of service from any other gun maker.

I have a DPMS and I have had no problems at all. Compared to my friends Bushmaster the only two things that set them apart are the trademark stamped in the side and the price tag. That came out of his mouth. I have shot a Colt and it was a little more refined but I'm not sure it justified the price.

Actually you hit it right on the money, I'm pretty worried about that which is why I'm looking into getting something now when it's still possible. I already have an AK, so I've got my "assault weapon" but hey....you can't have too many "assault weapons."

No complaints or issues with mine. Runs fine and eats anything i have fed it (including steel-cased russian stuff). It is more accurate than I with open sights. The trigger leaves a lil to be desired (of course I inevitably compare it to a Rem 700 and a Savage AccuTrigger) but that can be easily remedied with a drop in replacement trigger unit.

Of my blackgun collection, the DPMS is the most accurate beating out the Bushmaster's and Armalite.

Nice looking rifle Rembrant! Where did you find a gold BC? Looks sharp.

Buy a DPMS stripped lower for about $100 and get a rifle kit somewhere else... MUCH cheaper to assemble it yourself, and you can customize it and save some money vs. doing upgrades later.

check out www.mapartsinc.com their uppers are made by LMT

I have both the DPMS and a Bushmaster. Each has it's own attributes. Both have also proven to be equally reliable. I use each based on their particular design. My Busmaster is a 20 inch heavy barrel model and I have that scoped with a Leupold. It is used for longer range. My DPMS is a M-4 clone and uses a ACOG sight and is used for most of my fun plinking type shooting.
The DPMS guns can have tight chambers and sometines will be finnicky about particular ammo. It really boils down to what you are expecting from the gun.
As a side note I have not had one failure from my DPMS or my Bushmaster that wasn't a result of ammo or mags.
Where are you located? I paid almost the same for both of my AR's and find that a $200 difference is pretty significant.

I've had my DPMS LR 308B for about a year now. Perhaps 1500 rds through it. It has been totally reliable with all domestic factory ammo & all of my reloads. (read that as NO failures of any kind) The rifle's accuracy has been very good with 100 yd groups ranging from 3" with some factory ammo & reloads using Win. 147 FMJs to 5/8 ~ 7/8" 5 round groups with my reloads. (168 Sierra HPBT match & 42.5 RL15 or 41 of IMR 4895) These groups fired using a Harris bipod and my Mark 1 mod 1 shoulder, no bags.
The best factory ammo was the Federal 150 gr Power shok which yielded groups just under 1" and cost less than $15.00 per box at Wal Mart!
It does have a very tight chamber, the brass is not stretched appreciably nor is it difficult to resize. I get at least 5 reloadings from my brass, usually discarding due to loose primer pockets.
The rifle was ordered from DPMS with a cryo barrel, Hogue overmolded pistol grip & JP trigger, all of which I can recommend as being worthy options.

If nothing else, order or buy your rifle with an upgraded trigger as the stock triggers are worse than dreadful, the only negative factor in an otherwise excellent rifle.

I used a DPMS lower on my last AR build. The finish on the lower was great, and the fit was very good. So far that rifle has fired around 800-900 rounds of mixed LC, Federal and Wolf steel case. It ate it all.
YMMV.

DPMS 1:7 14.5 upper w perm FH and freefloat rails - no issues at all thru 1,000 rnds. They seem to be good value but way backordered at the moment, as are many suppliers.

I have both a DPMS and a Bushmaster. A slight edge to fit and finish with the Bushmaster. Save the $200 and by the DPMS, If I was going to buy another thats what it would be. Spend the money on good mags and ammo. BTW, both guns took about 200 rounds of good factory ammo to break in, both have run 100% for thousands of rounds each, handloads and factory. JMHO, Bill
