Any Feedback for the Howa Thumbhole?

A friend of mine is looking for a new varminter and really has his eye on the Howa Thumbhole Varminter:

Haven't heard any feedback on Howas other than on their Weatherby productions which seem very well built. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Everyone I know that has a Vangard or Smith & Wesson are very pleased with them. I just picked up an .243 Ultralight about an hour ago so haven't had a chance to get a scope mounted or shoot it. This one has a matte painted and textured black wood stock, again, very light weight. Should make an excellent light carry rifle for 'yotes.

Got it all cleaned up and lubed up with FP10. The action is a little bit sticky for the 1/2" or so closest to the closed position. The trigger is great compared to most Rugers, Remingtons and Winchesters these days - probably 4.5 lbs would be my guess. Safety is very easy to manipulate and it is similar to the Remington model though I prefer the Winchester/Ruger style myself. No dings or dents as reported by another member on his 700 PSS. Go figure - half the cost but pretty much good to go out of the box. So far, the Howa looks like a good value. I'll report on the accuracy and handling in the near future.

I've had a Vanguard a couple years and recently got a Howa stainless 22-250.The Howa was better out of the box than my Vanguard even though it's made by the same company.I had to adjust the trigger on the Vanguard and the barrel wasn't floated.The Howa was floated and the trigger feals fine.Both guns to me shoot great.When I go get a 25-06 it will probably be another stainless Howa.

I purchased a Howa 1500 Blue/Syn. 2 years ago in 270, had a 3x9 Nikon mounted, had it boresighted, took it to the range, 1st. 3 rounds dead center (Cloverleaf) @ 100yds .... the great thing about it was the Cost, only 318.00 on the rifle, 40.00 for the leupold base & rings...!!!! already had the Nikon

I purchased a custom thumbhole stock ( only took 1 year to get it ) changed the stock out, went to the range and the 1st. 5 rds. dead center off the bench @ 100yds, I would have to rate the Howa 270 right up there with my Tikka 243.

Im thinking about a Howa 6.5x55 barreled action, it should bolt right up to the Syn. 270 stock, they are both Long Actions... Hope the Info helps...
