I seem to hear about shooting range's being closed down and haven't heard of any new ranges being planned or opening for business. Last opening I heard about was over near China Lake or Ridgecrest area.

Does anyone know of new ranges being planned or opening soon around the country or in your area?
Are they rifle or pistol?
Indoor or outdoor?

I had a business plan for an indoor range and shelved it largely due to the politicos in Sacramento and workmens comp and medical insurance and zoning regs and fees and my general aversion to dealing with gov entities. The City wanted me way south of town which pretty much neutered the BP.

My local gun shop is proposing to build an indoor range nearby. First, they have to get the city (Loveland, OH) to change its code which prohibits discharge of firearms within city limits (to make an exception for "licensed target facilities." Sadly, if they can accomplish it, it will have so many restrictions and strings attached (and be so costly) I'm not sure whether I will ever want to use it.

Yes & yes.

The Scout Troop that I am involved with just recently moved their range to a new location (sorry, registered scouts only :( ) & had it registered somewhere as an existing range so that if a subdivision springs up next door all noise complaints will be thrown away. The county to the west of me is planning on building a range as part of a big sports complex (as of last year, no recent news afik).

And of course if I ever get my huge spread there will certainly be one there :D .

Henry,

which store, Shooter's Supply?

I'm currently a member of Target World, although I'm thinking of switching to another place if they don't renovate their range soon.

Yes, Shooter's Supply.

I only found out about it by happening upon a televised (cable public access) city counsel meeting where it was being discussed. The anti's and their "arguments" were pathetic. But, sadly, the shop and its attorney gave way too much credibility to lame points and emotion. No word on the status. I will be stopping by there today or tomorrow and will ask.

Few months ago they opened a range down by the Pima fairgrounds. Its an outdoor range. I havent had an opportunity to visit it yet.

How about upgrades?

Burnsville Pistol Range will be adding 4-5 50-yard indoor rifle lanes in the spring and remodeling their lobby.

(Hey, post #300!)

Can'thavenuthingood:

This is rather far for you to travel but Hub City Rifle and Pistol Club/Fusilier Complex, Inc. have opened a new range on a section (Square mile/642 acres) of property about 6 miles East of Arnaudville, LA (South Central LA- 12 miles off I-10). :)

We have a 300 meter, 30 bench rilfe range and a 50 yard pistol range with concrete shooting decks.

No covers yet, but plan them next year before it gets really hot.

This is a private club, but we do allow members to bring guests.

This replaces a 200 yard rifle/50 yard pistol range closed down by political opponents (To be generous) two years ago. :fire:

Plans are for 1,000 yard and 600 yard ranges for NRA Long Range, Palma, and Highpower matches, plus shotgun, Cowboy action, etc. ranges.

Details at www.hcrpc. com

Also, Bayou Rifles in Houston, TX have opened a 1,000 yard range in the Pearland, TX area. Contact is: New membership director will be Clyde McMeans - [email protected] :)

Palo Alto Gun club west of Donaldsonville, LA just opened a new range with rifle, pistol, and a 600 yard Highpower range. Don't have the contact info for them, but the NRA would. :(

Representin' the shockers....Wichita Kansas,
Our public range at Cheney Lake just reopened about 4 months ago. The place had been a dump that nobody took care of. Originally it was shut down to put side walks and wheel chair access in, after hearing this and waiting six months, I loaded up the two gun arsenal and did the 45 minute drive. When I got there, the range was gone, leveled, non-existant. It had been buldozed (I couldn't even tell if I was in the right place...)
It has since reopened (a year and a half after said event), brand new sheltered backstops, sidewalks, a restroom :what: (good for the ladies, by best friend wouldn't shoot there with me for this reason) and acutal tables to shoot from instead of those worthless spools. 100yrd rifle, 25 yrd pistol and no shotguns. Paper targets only, the have steel target stands that hold a 6ftx2ft chunk of self sealing foam to post your targets on (no more jury rigged target stands).
The range is completely free, provided you fill out a range card (what you shot, when you were there). Only open Fri. Sat and Sun. when the wildlife and parks officer is present. I highly recomend the range, if you do go, please pick up your own d@#* brass. :cuss:
