i'm a 20 year old female vegan gun owner from new jersey who is currently living in vermont. nobody's ever called me a hick... if anything, i think they're surprised to find out that i love guns and own an ak-47. :]

:] +1 turnyourback

to moiself, yes, there are many females around here on this forum, but the general outlook by society, even by many shooters, is that you are either criminal, sociopath, or redneck to like guns.

What? Rock is redneck? I love rock but I do not see it as redneck at all.... infact... among other subjects other than gun control I am considered a liberal

All 3 of my girls went to gun safety training and hunting with me. I doubt anyone would consider them rednecks, as they are all college grads and live in metro areas.

Hello, I'm 19, a male, from Michigan. Nice to meet you. :)

Gals with Guns Rule!!

I have been shooting since I was 21 years old. I love my guns, I own quite a few. I enjoy it so much that I have become a firearms instructor, both civilian and military. Let some butthead call me a redneck hick!! ( I am from NY originally, but they don't like guns up there, so I left).

I starting plinking with my dad when I was in grade school. Hunted with my dad the while growing up. I have owned my "own guns" since I was able to buy them. When I met my husband he started taking me to the range to teach me about handguns. I have fully enjoyed it ever since. My ex husband enjoys guns and shooting..yet never have the patience to shoot with me. So when we divorced I decided I would be the one to teach our son. We have a grand ol time at the range plinking with the .22. I carry a Gp100 in .357, reload my own ammo to make hotter loads. Just purchased a taurus .44 sp snubby for concealed carry and a 1911 officers .45 acp. I have learned to love recoil and the feeling of shooting a gun that is "too big for a girl".
Like some of the women here..I too have encountered the people that think I am either some kind of crazy woman for carrying a gun...or am just a redneck. The way I look at it...I am a woman who is prepared to defend myself..and refusing to be a victim. Call me what you want...I will call myself prepared.
I get a lot of looks while running my errands with a gun on my side..I get women asking me why I chose to carry with a young child. My answer is simple...I won't let someone else decide my fate.
I also get the men at gun shops thinking that since I am a woman I need nothing more than a .380...that simply won't do for me. There is no gun too big...in my opinion. If you are comfortable...by all means...become proficient. I had a man tell me when I bought my GP..."that's a pretty big gun for such a little girl....why not get yourself a husband"..I just don't understand it.

Redneck Hick is sometimes a badge of honor...

My wife doesn't post, but she will read over my shoulder..

she does not mind shooting, and has shot every one of my pistols except the BP .44

And she doesn't mind flinging a few arrows during the spring months either..

She's comfortable with our Berretta 21..

If they are sensible and grew up around guns and know how to handle them, I think women have a much better attitude around firearms than a lot of guys.
On the other hand, if they grew up hardcore anti, then it is seemingly impossible to get them to see the other side. Their rationale is completely fear-based.

turnyourback you are an exception and not the rule. Vegan?? What that?:scrutiny:

If people want to call be a "redneck hick" for owning a gun, it just proves that they are ignorant. I can also ride a motorcycle better than most, but it doesn't make me part of a "biker gang" either. I also have a tattoo......OMG

A biker chic with a gun :D

Caryn

You should have answered them.........
"That's real funny guys, but do any of you know what happens when a CITY SLICKER/URBAN COWBOY tries to rape or assault a SHE-REDNECK HICK CHICK?"

More likely than not, it will be the offender who will be showing red. :what::what::what:

My sister shoots ten times better than me and i can still carve out the center of the target, both of us shoot better than any cop i've seen on the range. :neener:

Redneck refers to a stereotype of usually rural, Caucasian (i.e. white) people of lower socio-economic status in the United States and Canada. Originally limited to the Appalachians, and later the South, the Ozarks, the Great Plains and the Rocky Mountains, this stereotype is now widespread throughout North America. Southern comedian Jeff Foxworthy defines "redneck" as "a glorious lack of sophistication," stating "that we are all guilty of [it] at one time or another."

Hick may refer to: –noun 1. an unsophisticated, boorish, and provincial person; rube. –adjective 2. pertaining to or characteristic of hicks: hick ideas. 3. located in a rural or culturally unsophisticated area: a hick town.

I would be Insulted, after reading what it means to most people

American Countryman is more of a correct term!

"redneck" So you've worked out in the sun and gotten a little burned. Nothing to
be ashamed of. We have lots of female shooters here. Hell, there is our little darling
"MedGrl", our lady of cause "Pax" and many, many others. Be proud, be happy,
and be safe.

Its hard to fit a husband in your purse. :D

Probably more common than you might think.

I am probably a more common type of "gun-toting" female than most people would think.

I am 60++ years of age. I am a wife, mother, grandmother, g-grandmother, retired nursing instructor.

I live in a very rural area of south-eastern Oklahoma, but, any rural area would likely be much the same. All emergency services are at least 30-45 min. away.

My husband had a stroke 3 years ago, and has very limited mobility.

The maintenance & security of our home is my responsibility.

For me, and for many others like me, guns are a tool.
Handguns, shootguns, and rifles are used for snakes & varmits (belly crawling, 4 & 2 legged) they are as needed as a shovel, hammer or any other tool that I use on a regular basis. :)
