Any semiauto pistols that can still fire when slightly or more than slightly out of battery? I think I saw in one cheezy action movie where the hero slid the slide back on a bad guys pistol, rendering it unable to fire. Later someone told him he should be careful since some pistols can still fire with the slide pulled/pushed back.

My question is does any pistol still fire when out of battery? I don't think it would be mechanically possible but you never know. My guess is 99% don't fire out of battery but some very cautious designer probably has anticipated this.

Don't know for sure about the new generation Glock, but they will fire out of battery.

When firing lead bullets, a build up of lead would develop at the point the case was supposed to head space in the chamber. If not cleaned at very regular intervals, the cartridge would be gradually set back farther and farther in the chamber. This problem is compounded by the fact that the chamber is unsupported and the weapon will fire out of battery. When fired far enough back in this out of battery configuration, the case ruptures in the unsupprted area and Kaboom!

The soulution often broadcast was don't shoot lead in Glocks (and it spread to all 40S&W as well) when the real soulution was: When shooting lead (hard cast only at/above 19 Bernell), clean at very low round counts.

Scary - :what:

One more reason not to shoot lead in Glocks and just one more reason for us 1911 die hards not to buy Glocks.
It's OK Glock fans, you can give me some crap.
Glocks must not be all bad. Too many die hard Glock fans out there.

1911 .45 ROCKS!!!

Read a post about an XD9 firing out of battery, the owner called springfield and was told, yes its possible. After that I checked my P345 and CZ75, both wont fire out of battery(pencil test):)

Glock fans just clean a lot more than the rest of us.:neener:

I beleive that pistols with hammers are less likely than striker fired pistols to fire out of battery due to the fact that if the slide is only pushed back a little the hammer can no longer contact the rear of the firing pin assuming that the hammer face is flat and has no protrusions.
