Anybody got 1911 rapid fire videos?

I am talking about standard 1911 models, without any additional bells and whistles like long slide or compensators.

I have a friend who shoots IPSC in Canada, and the guy shoots A LOT. He uses Glock, and keeps telling me that 1911 is too hard to control comparing to 9mm Glock. He gave me numbers for his split - amount of time it takes to fire two controlled shots from his Glock, and claimed that nobody can do that with 1911. He also showed me some hi speed videos of Glock shootin and 1911 shooting. On that video Glock had very fast recovery time - shot after shot. The gun stayed on target. While 1911 was waaay off the target after each shot, and it was taking a longer time to get it back on the target.

Does anybody have numbers for standard 1911 .45ACP split time? Does anybody have hi speed video of 1911 shooting .45ACP ammo rapidly?

The magazine is attachted to the dustcover to act as a foregrip. It feeds through the grip, like a standard 1911, only has more ammo. thay dont have the info posted on the site, but IIRC its a 55 round magazine.

Look in the special items page at the BUL Transmark website for pics of that gun. Its definately not a .45, the round looks like a 9x19/9x23/.38 super to me.

If the Glock were faster than the 1911, all the IPSC "Grand Masters" (the top 5% of IPSC shooters) would be shooting them instead of mostly widebody 1911's in Limited and Open.

I don't know the mechanical limit for cycle time, but it's not unhead-of for IPSC guys to get 0.11 or 0.12 second splits. 0.14-0.18 is more common since you're supposed to reacquire some sight picture between shots even in a "double tap".

Everyone has a favorite gun, an opinion, and personal experiences to draw from. David Sevigny shoots a Glock real fast. Kyle Farris just made Limited GM with a Glock and he just rocks. But to say a Glock is faster to shoot than a 1911 is a far stretch.

As for split times, the time to the second shot depends on several variables, including the distance to the target. At say 5-7 yards, the split time for a real hoser could quite possibly be the same regardless of platform, within reason. As for muzzle flip, a 9mm Glock would be expected to have less flip than a .45 1911. Big deal. Yeah, flat shooting guns are nice, but if the sight tracks perfectly and the shooter is in tune with the timing, he/she will still crank off shots rather quickly.

FWIW, I am not the greatest shooter in the world but I have developed a reputation locally of being a regular split monster. Splits in the low teens with my 1911 are no big whoop, nor is a 2 second Bill Drill (six shots from the surrender position into the A box of an IPSC target at seven yards).

I dunno, with a stock glock vs a stock 1911, I doubt the glock is going to win. Once you start customizing triggers and adding heavy guide rods, mess with teh recoild springs, and all sorts of other customizations, it's anyone's game. But it still 90% shooter when you get right down to it.

The biggest difference however, is ammo.

A full length dust cover 1911 (which you can buy from several folks), with 170 power factor hand loads does not have much flip at all. You want to talk about 9mm, at a local match someone ahd a 1911 in 9mm that was shooting about 130pf, and the thing barely moved. At that point it is down to trigger reset, and both the glock and 1911 have a nice short reset. Personally, I think a para lda runnign minor 40 in production might be serious competition for the glocks out there.

However, unless that pans out, a glock with some skateboard tape, a heavy guide rod, some spring tweaking, and a 2lb trigger is in theory legal for production. Not much is going to keep up with that in that category at the moment. No safety to disengage, not a lot of inertia for transitions, and a nice low bore axis. Frankly, if someone made a steel framed glock, it'd probably be the ultimate production gun as the mass would make minor 40 be extremely low recoil.
