If so, how does it work? Cycle well with subs and supers, with or without a can? What length is the gas system?

Mostly interested in Satern barrels, 14.5"-16", but if you have another make and something to say good or bad I'd like to hear it.

I plan on using a Satern and an SDN6 at the moment.

I have a McGowan barrel with a pistol length gas system. So far, works great. I haven't really played with it A LOT, but with hand loaded 220gr OTM, it's been fun so far. Waiting on a Form 4 for a Liberty Mystic. Then I'll run it a little bit more.

I've run a 9" Shilen barrel with a pistol length gas system with no problems. Subs and supers, suppressed and not.

Yeah, but I'm stuck with no SBR's. So 14.5" with a blind pinned AAC mount or a 16" with threaded AAC mount is in my future. But I hear so many conflicting stories about reliability and regarding gas length, port size, and bbl. length. So confused.

I suppose I should just trust Satern. They won't sell me a piece of junk, and they know what I desire in it.

But if anyone has anything to add about these length barrels with carbine gas, and with subs and supers and with or without suppressor, I'd be grateful.

Are there any loads that seem to cause issues?

You know, instead of being "stuck" with a 14.5" barrel with a blind pinned mount, you could go ahead and build something like this:

This is my 9mm upper with a 9.915" barrel. The shroud brings it to 16.25" and the suppressor mounted comes to 17". The shroud is blind pinned to the barrel.

One of these days I'll build some kind of integral and go a similar route. I think an integrally suppressed .300BLK dedicated and rifled to fire 240gr. pills only would be pretty sweet.

But this one, it will be using the SDN6 suppressor that will be used on other rifles. I already have the mounts and will be doing the papers for the suppressor soon (would have done them today but they got messed up)

The beauty of this is that you can still use your suppressor on other rifles. Cutting the barrel and having it shrouded, you can still use your mount under the shroud. Since the shroud is perm attached, the overall length is still 16" so no need to Form 1 an SBR until you're ready.

You can always cut off the shroud if and when you're ready to build an integral. (I have a form 1 waiting for an integral 9mm as we speak.)

Thanks MasterSergeant. I just finished blind pinning the tube to the barrel and the KG is going on tomorrow. I should have it ready for the range by the weekend!!
