Anyone actually use a 7.62x25 Upper for Ar15?

The 7.62x25 and Five-Seven became handgun calibers only due to the common caliber used in the sub-machineguns that were used to do the real fighting with.

Actually the 7.62x25 is a decedent of the 7.63x25 Mauser used in broomhandle pistols that the Czar's army loved so much. So the round technically started out as a pistol round.

I'd love to see more rifles chambered for this round. A little more development with today's modern bullets and powders and you could have a very viable defensive round. Would make for a very good PDW concept, at least in my opinion. I'd just be careful using it in the homestead for those late night social occasions until some more suitable defensive rounds were available. This round in a corbon powrball would probably be the cat's behind.

I'm looking at this http://www.prexis.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc? Price is much better but I am going to wait untill more reviews are out. Its a side feed like a sten or steerling and ejects out the rt side.

I have one of the first run of these (the ZK version), they are well made and fun. They are '43 mags, no mods were needed other than a little fitting. A future version is expected to use a Ppsh41 drum.

Toby is supposed to ship mine out on Monday. I've got plenty of Polish and Romanian 7.62x39 ammo on hand and will report back ASAP!

Toby was true to his word. Got my upper and spare mags today.

Hope to try it out this weekend. It really looks good. My only complaint is the front hand guards rock back and forth if you twist them -- not quite as bad as the Colt 6920s I've looked at. These are an oval shape that is different than any others I have. I've got spares if I end up not liking these after I've shot it. They feel odd, but its probably because they are different, but not as odd as the first quad rail gun I shot.

Every thing looks first rate, but the proof is in the shooting. I'll report back with photos after I've shot it, hopefully on Monday.

Finally got to try it!

Finally got to try out my CNC Gun Parts AR 7.62x25 upper. I put it on an Aero Precision lower I put together with DPMS parts kit and Tapco M4-style stock.

Here are the parts I received (not showing the 6 extra mags I ordered along with it):

And here is the assembled rifle:

Function was flawless for the first six mags except for one dud round (50+ year old Polish ammo, it went the second try). The seventh mag had some issues after about 20 shots. I noticed the feed lips didn't look like the others while loading it and sure enough it held the rounds too nose down low to feed the last 1/3. I manually stripped the rounds and put them in one of the other mags and all fed and fired fine. I'll bend the lips to match the others and see how it goes next time. If that don't do it, I'll complain to Tobi about sending me a dud mag.

Not a good day to talk about group sizes and 50+ year old Polish and 25+ year old Romanian ammo is not likely to do any gun justice, but cheap shooting is what I was after and this thing delivers. I spent enough on the upper and extra mags so I skimped elsewhere, but I've been very happy with the Barska M16 electro sight (~$70) and the UTG flip up rear (~$30) on other ARs so it was an easy choice to use them here too.

Bore sight had me on the paper about 3" left of center at 50 yards. Off the sandbags while zeroing, ten shots were going into about a 4" high by 2" wide ellipse, winds were gusty and variable so I didn't worry about it and centered the "patterns" as best I could. Can't really argue the Romanian was more accurate than the Polish ammo or vice-versa, but I don't really care as a fun plinker and cheap shooting is what I'm after.

My real test is shooting at 8" Shoot'n'See targets to pretend they are my 8" steel plates (can't shoot steel with rifles at my club, have to do it my friend's ranch) but off hand, at 50 yards I was averaging about 30 out of 35 hits so this thing sure is going to be a lot of fun when the weather gets better!

The loose hand guard did annoy me while shooting so I pulled it, and put a drop of JB Weld on each index lug of the upper hand guard, reassembled and let dry in the position I deem correct. Should do the trick.

All and all, I'm very happy so far. Figure you are doing very good to find 9mm ammo for $200/1000 and the 7.62x25 runs about $110/1200 so the savings will add up fast. Corrosive ammo cleanup is the only negative, but its not that much trouble, it just means I won't bring it if I'm not 100% sure I'll have time to clean it after shooting it.

Compared to the price of a 9mm upper and mag block, this CNC Gun Parts 7.62x25 kit is not too bad a price premium, easily recovered after shooting about a case and a half of ammo.

Edit, Since the gas block is under the handguard and not in the sight base, the "dissipater" configuration with full length handguards would make a lot of sense for the longer sight radius. Didn't see that as an option when I ordered, but if I was doing it again, I'd ask about it.

Seems like a cool idea, if a bit expensive. Ticks me off there aren't affordable carbines in such a great round. Not the least of which for the availability and price points, either, but the round in and of itself is noteworthy.

I got 1440 rounds of Romanian for about $140 on aimsurplus.com
Almost done with the can. The CZ-52 I got for $250 has run through it like a champ as well, so for those looking for a great round cheap and a reliable, accurate handgun I can recommend them enthusiastically.

And cleanup is as one-stop as with anything else I was accustomed to using because Montana Xtreme is made for all types ammo, and you can even skip the oil patch barrel swab if you want www.montanaxtreme.com

BTW, don't trust regular solvents to alleviate what 'corrosive' ammo does. It leaves salts that need either water or ammonia to dissolve. Montana Xtreme happens to use ammonia. DO NOT PUT THIS STUFF TO YOUR NOSE AND TAKE A WHIFF! Even the little patches can smell up a room if you don't throw 'em away after use...

As I said its not too out of line with the price of a 9mm upper, its mag block, and mags. Maybe ~1800 rounds surplus 7.62x25 vs. cheapest 9mm to break even. My RRA 9mm is certainly no more accurate with the cheapest 9mm ammo than this is with the surplus 7.62x25. I expect either would do better with better ammo, but that's not the point of these things, lots of fun shooing at ammo costs that won't make you cry is the goal.

I enjoyed my CZ52 until I got a Tok TT-33 -- much easer to take apart, clean, and reassemble than the CZ52.

Red China stuck with their version of the Tokarev pistol in 7.62X25 till only a few years ago and it hasn't been entirely replaced in service as far as I know.

Quick follow-up. Weather was a lot better than last time, shot 10 rounds of the Romanian surplus off sandbags they landed in about a 2" circle at 50 yards, tweaked the windage and elevation two or three clicks and then proceeded to make holes in my "Dirty Bird" 8" targets from the standing position pretending they were steel plates.

Was happy to find the mag I had problems with last time and tweaked the feed lips on was fine this time out. One mag fell out while shooting, so I tweaked the bend in the cutout notch a tad with a flat blade screw driver and it stayed in from then on.

All and all I'm very satisfied with this gun and the extra mags. Good cheap shooing fun, got 490 rounds thru it now (seven mags each outing) and its not too bad to clean afterwards.

The dab of JB Weld made the hand guards rock solid, felt much better to me when shooting, with them not rocking I didn't really notice the elliptical shape of these compared to the round ones I''m used to.

I could not find one I liked so I built my own.

The gun is a one of a kind new build, and I DO Not have all of the bugs out of it yet.

Mine worked out of the box. At this point in my life I have more spare money than spare time.

Your's looks good but its a hassle doing NFA stuff in Houston. I've got the lawyer from our pre-paid legal plan at work, working up a trust so I expect to play with SBRs and Cans eventually.

7.62x25 uppers

I have witnessed experiments on the new 7.62x25 uppers on two separate lowers and all I saw were intermittent functions separated by broken parts. Anyone else have better luck?

I've got about 1000 rounds through my Cncgunparts 7.62x25 upper and nothing has broke.

On mine, the 10 round mag works flawless. The 32 rounders, you have to hold the mag in position. It has too much forward and backward slop to function correctly. If its too far back, it jams. Other than that, it works great in full auto. And a lot cheaper than 223.
