And my latest Commander sized (sort of) 1911 .... a Kimber Stainless Pro Raptor II. I'm going to bob the frame, add an Ed Brown chainlink MSH, remove the Swartz firing pin safety, swap most of the MIM parts for Ed Brown parts and finish the whole pistol in Graphite Black Cerakote. Total cost will be just under $1,500 which includes the pistol at $1,135, all of the Ed Brown parts at just over $300 and $35 for 4oz of Cerakote. Should be fun.
I have a CBOB and Kimber Pro Carry II. Both nice carrying guns. The CBOB is away getting a whole new makeover (appearance wise). They keep my smaller buddies the Crimson Ultra Carry II and my Para Carry C7.45 company.
I have a Kimber Pro TLE II and I absolutely love it. The VZ grips are great and after the 23# Wolff recoil spring it runs excellently. How do you like the bobbed grip?
A bobtail grip is a must have for me on a Commander size 1911, just as every full size 1911 must have an extended and beveled mag well e.g. an Ed Brown Maxi-Well.
Oh man. Now you guys have me lusting after a yet another pistol. When I went looking for a Commander size 1911 the local market didn't have much and I ended up buying an Officer size Colt. I rebuilt it with Wilson Combat parts and have a nice gun, But now you have gone and done it! I still want a Commander. :banghead:
I'm not normally a fan of full length dust covers. Particularly in 1911's. But WOW! DOES THIS STYLE SUIT ON COMMANDER LENGTH GUNS! ! ! ! That pistol is HOT!
Mind you due to the lack of the usual slide front end shape I don't see this as a classic 1911 at all. Instead it's more like an evolutionary breed.
Man u guys are making me antsy! I am saving for my first 1911, and I want it to be Commander-sized. Can't make up my mind as to manufacturer though! Those stock Colts look pretty sweet.
I'm squirreling away $$$ for a Commander of some sort right now I told my wife that it is an imperative that I purchase a 1911 before 2011 becomes 2012. She agreed, surprisingly.
The Commander models have always looked "stubby" to me. Much prefer the Commander slide on an Officers frame. Keeps the proportions much more like the Gov't model.
