I needed a new propane burner for melting lead, so I went to walmart and they had the RWS ammunition and it was $16.95 - wow... I am so happy to be reloading now.
Went to my local indoor shooting range yesterday and saw that they have banned the RWS ammo. They said it has steel core bullets that cause too much sparking on the back wall.
Sure glad I did not buy any of the $17 stuff, I'll just stick with the $9.47 a box Federal ammo.
I have seen Federal 9mm as low as $8.97 per box, and it's very good stuff for the price. I prefer it to Blazer, which my range stocks for $12.99. Federal's budget line seems to be pretty good across the board; all the pistol and rifle calibers I've tried it in are cheaper than the competition and shoot just as well. Can't ask for more.
I won't complain about the $16 orange-and-black stuff. Personally, I'm going to hold out for the cheaper stuff, but $16 isn't a horrible price either if you need some ammo and can't find it anywhere else. Also, the price probably keeps it on the shelf longer so it's available for someone who may need it.
It's made by RUAG, and imported by RWS. RUAG makes probably the premier sniper ammo in the world. If you're killing people with a .338LM, chances are good you are shooting RUAG ammo.
I will be buying a couple boxes of the RWS 9mm every paycheck.
No, it is NOT "steel cored"...It is steel jacketed.
That youtube video was pointless and hurt my head.

I got some a couple weeks ago but haven't tried it yet. I just put a magnet to it and it stuck. It definitively is either steel core or copper washed steel jacket. Maybe I'll sacrifice one and cut it in half to see.
They got me looking with the funky colors. On the front they have a picture of some ammo and its either an altered pic or a black and white. For a moment I thought it was all black ninja ammo, being sold as gimmick.
From what I see in my local Wallmart, Its the only thing that they can keep stocked. The federal and WWBs are all gone 2 days after they recieve shipment. If you don't get some in time at least they have this new SWISS stuff better than nothing.
I shot a box of it a couple of weeks ago, it was ok. Reasonable accuracy, no jams, but I can say the same of the two boxes of Fiocchi I shot through that day as well.
