Does any company make a government profile 20" barrel upper or are they all HBARs?

I would like to have a complete 20" A2 rifle without an HBAR if one exists.

Thanks for the help.

To answer my own question CMMG has a 20" A2 with a chrome lined government profile barrel for $1,000. Add $45 for shipping and FFL transfer.

Now to decide if CMMG makes a rifle worth 1 grand.

Description:

New production CMMG 20" Gov't Rifle. Features include mil-spec fire control group and take-down pins, gov't profile, chrome lined 5.56mm chamber and bore, 1/7 twist, parkerizing under "F" marked forged front sight base, forged upper and lower receiver, M4 feed ramps, rifle length handguards and A2 stock. All barrels are magnetic particle tested and all uppers have been factory head spaced and test fired. Included with weapon are hard case, cleaning kit, sling, 2-30rd mags, manual and lifetime warranty.

Their web site seriously sucks. I might give their sales department a call.

CMMG has one for way less than 1k. I found one for just over 500. If I can save the money, I would buy it.

My flat top 20" govt profile upper is from CMMG

$525.95 for upper and regular HG
$25? for 5C1 FH
$85 for carry handle

Be careful. You can really jack up the price with options.

My gun shoots great! Best out of the box accuracy of any rifle I've ever owned.

Chrome lined barrels

Chrome lined barrels are the least accurate barrel you might choose. As most barrell mfg.'s build for government contracts they offer chrome lining for the simple reason they will last into the 8,000 round life span.
Beware of the companies listing a chrome update for 35 bucks extra, flash chrome is worthless in a rifle bore.
Check http://jtdistributing.com/store/barreled_uppers_rifle.html and see if they offer your desired barrel. They have a page that explains what they carry and why, as well as who makes what for them.
Any one who say's you should buy a major company built rifle not a parts rifle needs to do some home work as all rifles are parts rifles. Government contractors build the parts, and companies get their parts from them.
At any rate if your gonna use the rifle as a machine gun, Go chrome, hard chrome. if not go with a standard bore.

The accuracy difference between chromed and non-chromed is minimal and you won't even notice the difference unless you are a "serious" shooter.

If the rifle is for average use, informal plinking, "bug out" etc...go chrome...less maintenance in the long run and long service life...(15,000+ rounds).

If you plan on doing nothing but hipower competition, then build your rifle to weigh ~15lbs and get a Kreiger or other "serious" barrel and prepare to change barrels about every 5,000 rounds or so.

Only my NM AR will have a non-chrome barrel...I demand it on all of my more modern weapons. I even getting ready to install a chrome lined Fulton barrel on one of my M1 "shooters" just for kicks...

I got the 20" Govt profile upper from CMMG for my M16A3/4 clone build.

It is a fantastic piece of work as far as AR15 upper builds go. All milspec parts and assembly. The most M16-correct 20" upper currently on the market that I am aware of... the only difference I can find is that it has the M4 feed ramps. I would not hesitate to use CMMG again. If I ever do a midlength build, I will definitely use their upper for that too.

A complete rife from them for a grand is a great deal. I didn't price their complete rifles, but I'm surprised it wouldn't be $1100++ for a basic rifle based on the quality.

I just bought three Government profile 1/9 twist chrome lined barrels from Bushmaster.
They will also make up an upper or a whole rifle in that configuration if you want one.
They also offer Govt. profile chrome lined barrels with a 1/7 twist if you really must.

Bushmaster makes a Govt. profile upper too, but it's a special order and you'll likely have a long wait.

They do have all the parts on their website if you're the type that likes self assembly. That's the route I went.

That said, I've also got a CMMG 16" Midlength Govt. profile and I'm very happy with it.
